X5 40e Pre heat interior through remote/app
So I have searched and googled and this is not clear.
Question: Can the new 2016 X5 40e (USA market) preheat the interior of the car on request? I have read a lot about pre conditioning the battery - and some things about pre conditioning the intiror...but want to make sure that this is not BMW speak for the old 'parked car ventilation' which did nothing but tern on the fan for 30 minutes. I live in a cold climate (Minnesota). Would be great I could, via app on iphone, initiate the car to use battery power to start heating the interior before I arrive. I have read that this is possible, that the set temp is 72F (cannot be changed), and this does not run the ICE engine, rather it is all via batter power. Hopefully not special use cases... i.e. does not work when batter is less than 50% charged, does not work if less than 0F outside, etc. In the market for a x5 40e or an x5 50i - looking very low mileage preowned. My 4 day per week commute to work is an ideal 11 miles with regen opportunities along the way. Also, have a simple 110v outlet in the parking lot I could use during the day. Most poking around errand stuff I do is less than 15 miles round trip. My situation could work well for the 40e... and I assume it is very quiet inside when on all electric. My other car is an e90 M3...so that is where I will get my thrills. Want something for winter and hauling my mountain bikes. thoughts??

I have a Eu spec 40e and I can preheat with the app. Its an electrical heater so there must be enough power in the battery or the car must be plugged in. Bad system, my Volvo has a fuel heater working with the app. Much better...

curious why you say it is a bad system? Does it not heat effectively?

In the uk the 330e can do this I think.
Tengocity any thoughts, does it genuinely warm the cabin? Sorry for the Batsign call

When I have a drive to a client and the battery is almost empty and I be there for several hours, I can't preheat the interior cause of a lack of power. I can't charge the car at clients offices. Fuel heater is much better because I have always fuel onboard. |

I assume the electric heater, being electric isn't terribly efficient at making heat hence resulting in a small engine that basically is hauling around a big SUV and depleted batteries, and the result is poor mileage.

I don't know if it's available in your country, but check out option 536. I have it in my car. It pre-heats the car with a fuel based heater. In about 5 minutes the car is nice and warm, no need to scrape the windows. Only pitty is that the seats aren't heated as well. I can start it via the remote app or with a (separate) remote control.

Hi Theove, or any one with the App and electric heating option.
I am about to finalise an order for e40, is the App now standard, the build tool @ BMW.ie is still set on the 2016 model yet no sign of the App as an option but in the BMW hard copy catalogue for the X5 40e shows as optional. The website is definitely not up to date as the reverse camera and 20” alloys for the M sport are now standard. Do you have the code for the electric heater and the App. Thanks for all your support |

Thanks Theove, I was confused about the 6AP not listed in my standard equipment order list, but looks like it to be triggered by registering once the car is delivered with Connect Drive Serivices. still need a confirmation I got caught before with the complexity of codes and all!
Don't see any reference for 6AG on our side, maybe UK and Ireland different all be it should be EU spec too, but will not be surprised if different. Reference that confused is below from BMW.ie Requirements/availability Requirements: ConnectedDrive Services as special equipment Before you can use Remote Services, they must be activated in the BMW ConnectedDrive customer portal (incl. security question for use via the call centre) The app can be downloaded at no cost from the Apple App Store. It is currently available for Apple iPhones and will later be released also for selected Android devices. To use the app inside BMW cars, you should have the option code 6AK ‘ConnectedDrive Services’ (incl. BMW Apps functionality) and the optional Remote Services (6AP). http://www.bmw.com/com/en/insights/t..._services.html Last edited by martin mustang; 11-25-2016 at 06:07 AM.. |
