Wondering about auto hold versus brake pedal

So now that I am using the auto hold properly, I'm very comfortable with it. No more rolling. I now find myself covering the gas, waiting for the light to change, instead of keeping my foot on the brake. Is that smart or safe? If I were to get rear ended, would the auto hold act like I had my foot on the brake? I'm always panning the mirrors, aware of my surroundings but stuff can happen in a flash and I wonder what if?

Thoughts?

Thanks all.

I don't know for sure, but I think it would keep the brakes locked unless you were to accidentally hit the gas....

Brake won't release till you touch the gas. Bmw legal team knows they can't mess up up

It's become second nature for me to engage auto hold, and rest my foot above gas instead of pressing the brake. Quicker reaction to the green light as well.
