X5 50i Hamann Exhaust

Hey all,

If you've been following my build and the other thread I made you probably will remember the Meisterschaft fiasco. I ended up having to cancel and went with the Hamann exhaust. The funny thing is I was listening to exhausts on the 50i before I even bought the car, and it was one of the reasons that led me to purchase the V8 instead of the turbo 6. Anyway, The hamann exhaust is a thing of beauty, I've seen it in person already. Is it more expensive? Much much more. But in the end I just wanted an exhaust and am happy to finally have one.

Installation was pretty straight forward. The installer spent about 15 minutes cutting the old exhaust off and bolting this one on. The only part that took time was lining up the tips correctly. The exhaust has 4 separate tips that are held on by 3 screws each. One on the top, and 2 on the bottom (imagine a piechart cut in 3s) They were very difficult to get to while the exhaust was already on the car. Lots of measuring to make sure they were all angled correctly.

Man does the exhaust sound beefy. Super aggressive, lots of pops and backfire in sport mode and EXTREMELY quiet when not on the gas. While cruising on the freeway I almost forgot I had an aftermarket exhaust on it. also while inside parking structures you can just barely hear the turbo whistling and spooling on acceleration. Pretty amazing changes from just a muffler. The 4.4 V8 definitely has a unique sound on acceleration, very throaty and gurgly. Not sure what other term to describe it as, Almost like a harley accelerating. Definitely different but I like it.

Nice!
I had their 4 pipe exhaust on my 550i F07. Awesome sound and look.
Does anyone have experience with the hamann exhaust on any of the diesels? Especially the m50d? Very curious about the sound there.

That sound makes me regret not getting the 50i!

No exhaust for the I6 will ever sound like that....

How much was it if you don't mind me asking? I believe supersprint makes all Hamann exhausts

I love it, Listening to aftermarket exhausts on the 5.0 was what swayed my decision to go with it instead of the 35i. The exhaust retails as $4950 with chrome tips. I paid a good chunk lower than that for it. I almost pulled the trigger on the supersprint instead, but having never heard one and the infinite combinations of mufflers, mid pipes, resonators I just didn't want to risk it. Spending weeks researching it I gave up and went with the Hamann which I had a good idea of what it was going to be.

Most are regretting not getting the 50i.. i'm regretting not getting the M kit to install this exhaust! This is just music to my ears.
I've heard though that with the normal rear bumpers I could install the AC Schnitzer exhaust, but it sounds nothing in comparison to this.

You can still install the exhaust with the normal real bumper i think. This is from what I've inquired with Hamann dealer in Cali. I have the same sentiment with M kit. It splits even with xline in the look department but every aftermarket parts are designed with M kit in mind.

@kakkon It sounds mean and not as raspy as ACS, this along with Supersprint exhaust are my top go to for X5. I would've bought one by now if I haven't preordered the new M3 for fiance. lol.

Pure awesome btw! post more pictures especially on the exhaust! I want to compare this quad vs Supersprint.

cy07 I've heard the opposite tbh. I've only considered the AC Schnitzer kit because it's one of the few that'll look normal on the xline. I'm not sure how the hamann exhaust will look on the xline, but i'm keen on trying though.

KKakonn,

I am new to this forum; not new to German cars. Your exhaust sounds amazing.

The thing is I don't know if I would have spent $4,000+ on exhaust mods to make it sound like that. But you're right I've thought about it a few times.. maybe I should have gotten the 50i and take the risk on issues with the V8 engine
