Can I swap clusters? 6wa and basic

I have a ‘15 with 6wa and hud. Also just got a ‘18 without hud and the pretty basic cluster.
Is it as simple as just swapping the two clusters and everything will work as before on each respective car? I understand they have to be coded. Does the basic display allow for hud so the ‘15 doesn’t lose this feature?

Thanks!

Pretty sure the cluster needs to be one that can work with a hud. It can't be coded. It's a hardware thing. That's a big issue with the 6wb I know.

You need 6WA with HUD compatibility, another windshield and coding.

I think that what OP is asking is whether he can put basic cluster in his '15 and still have the hud function. I suspect that the answer to this is 'no'; a hud-enabled cluster will work without a hud, but a cluster from a non-hud car will disable the hud of a car it is fitted to. Not sure of this with a basic cluster, but it is certainly the case with 6WA and 6WB.

Although this swap would have been no-cost, I suggest buying a second hand 6WA may be the way to go. Ebay is full of them since people have been upgrading to the full digital 6WB

Plenty of 6wa and 6wb on eBay. The 6wa is FAR less expensive ($300-400) than the 6wb ($1000-1500).
