Yes that's why people use oil catch cans

plugs are bosch ZR5TPP33S
you'll also need a 12pt socket. autozone has a nice one. duralast 72-376

the biggest thing when taking things apart is to be extra careful with the crankcase vent tube. its connected to the intake pipe. its very brittle, and i broke mine. i siliconed it as a temp fix. new one cost me around $35 off ebay. neither end comes off easy. best bet is to remove the end from the intake pipe. may need a screwdriver for some leverage.
Do the spark plugs need to gapped at all? Or do you just toss em in?

They come pre-gapped.

Check the gap anyway. Sometimes there will be a plug that has the gap way off.

I broke my crank vent hose too; but went and got hose from auto zone to replace the brittle garbage and used the existing connection points ( will last 10x longer than the garbage bmw hose bmw used).

The hardest part was removing the wiring harness in the back of the engine behind the charge pipe so you could get at the last couple plugs... three little torx bolts that are hard as anything to get at...

Got it all buttoned up only to find out cool #2 was DOA; so I had to put an original back in for now while I warranty with FCP Euro.

I put //m plugs in anticipating my MPPK soon. Runs like a champ.
Was it absolutely necessary to take out the three torx bolts for the wiring harness to get to the 5th cylinder? Also does anyone know where to find that acoustic foam cover that’s directly beneath the wiring harness? I may have ripped mine .

It's been a while since I did this, but I think yes you need to remove the harness. It lift it up and over a bit. If the foam is torn a little it doesn't matter. Just position it back into place. Use a glue or silicone if it bothers you.

I’ve used aluminium heater duct tape when repairing foam in the engine bay. Sticks real good, and it’s moldable. Can be found at any Lowe’s, etc.

Service coming due in 1K miles/Oct 2020. Besides oil change, the dealer is recommending I change the spark plugs. They are asking $536 to do (WTF)...

Local mechanic will do it for $200 if I bring the parts so should I buy "Bosch ZR5TPP33S" and how many? Any other recommendations in case I can't locate these for some reason?

I just spent a few minutes arguing with FCPEURO rep. He read a Bosch bulletin that said the S was the old version and that they sell thousands of the non-S without issues.
