Have You Seen This?
I was in Newport RI a few weeks ago for the Volvo Ocean Race and they had this beast there in person. At first I didn't even want to go into the Volvo Car exhibit but when I saw this thing my jaw dropped.
I've got about another year on my X5 lease, but I'm really into this Volvo, sorry... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEtVI8xTrAg |

Until I wanted an SUV, I was a loyal Volvo owner. I thought the XC90 looked great but at that time they drove like a bus. When I was replacing my first X5, I tried an XC90 again but no luck. Perhaps this new one will be better on the road than its predecessors.

A friend of mine in Canada just cancelled his MB GL order because the LCI is still 12 months away and he can't wait and will be test driving the XC90 tomorrow. He will be placing an order for the XC90 T6 Inscription if he is impressed with the test drive. I think he might still compromise and get the XC90 since he needs a seven seater now and there are not many good options out there at the moment. He also says it is significantly cheaper than the GL. Will provide any interesting comments from his test drive.

I came from an XC90 prior to the F15 and like most/all Volvo owners, safety was the overriding factor at time of purchase. The thing was a tank. Handling was not its forte. The design became quite long in the tooth, so this major redesign is huge. The "Thor's hammer" headlights got everyone's attention at the reveal last year. The linked YouTube vid is cool, but remember it's a show car. Will the final version be lowered like that? Absolutely not. It's good that the are really bringing back the R-cars, but I hope it's for real and not just lipstick. I was seriously contemplating finding a great-condition V70R instead of the XC90, but needed the size of the XC.

I've been following the discussions over on the Swedespeed forum as, just like many others, I liked the redesign and as a tech guy I really like what they've done with the big touch screen center console, Apple CarPlay etc. The first cars are now reaching owners and plenty of people have left their feedback after test drives. The overall consensus seem to be that it handles very well now and especially with the air suspension there's no body roll when going cornering. It'll definitely be on my list to test drive when my lease is up which fortunately isn't for another two years so hopefully I can compare the F15 LCI to the XC90.

I have waited this long, just to try the new XC90. I loved the looks, but wanted to drive and see how it felt. I had X5, Audi Q7 and XC90 in consideration. Q7 is taking for ever and I was not too much into the wagon looks. So my final list was XC90 and X5. The next day I tried XC90, I placed an order for X5 .
XC90 is a good competition for sure, but doesn't have the punch to its drive. I loved the way X5 drives, no second thoughts about that. But the options were pretty expensive in the X5. similarly built XC90 was 60K MSRP, My BMW was 68500 MSRP. But i got a good deal and got it for 61500 MSRP. You should drive them both and see which one you like most. Interior space and third row, XC90 is better. |

Wow...that looks super nice, love the agressive stance. Interior looks gorgeous too...especially the seats. Those XC90's have come a long way!

Love my Volvo...but it is the pinnacle of the old guard/old tech. This XC ushers in a new era, and IMHO, one that will elevate it from a niche brand with loyal followers to one that can compete in the mainstream. It will put Volvo on the map, and it will be the catalyst for much needed upgrades for the brand in the US (e.g. aging/obsolete dealer network).

Not bad, with air suspension and all goodies, right under $65k. Those 22's probably wouldn't last a day trip in NY so I'd pass. What I don't understand is their R trim looks so much better than inscription line, especially pairing red paint with black rims, but you lose out on LED headlights and few other things which is not available as an option either. It's weird, does anyone know more about why Volvo would do this? I'd rather have the Red and Black trim wheels and inscription's LED headlamps and others and would pay $2k more. Interior looks OK but a bit too busy, probably I've been spoiled by BMW's understated nice and clean control panels, also I can't tell if that all digital cluster panel is high res or not, but for some reason I really like the analog speedometers, I even wish my X5 still kept the analog mpg gauge instead of this digital one we got.
Love that blue color, though. It looks like a wrap.

cross between CF trim of BMW , porsche screen area with vents either side and external looks of Q7. Sorry, but it is still "old looking" in comparison with modern cabin of BMW.

It also has more hp than an N55. Not saying I endorse the 4 banger, but you could also argue BMW isn't delivering the full potential of their inline six.

They call it super charged and turbo charged and mark it with "T6" on the back of the car imho misleading people... Every one who sees T6 would assume that it turbo 6 right? While 6 cylinder one is simply not available...

This was high on my list of suvs to consider. It has body proportions similar to the X5 imo. Wide chunky stance. The only part i don't like on the XC90 are the rear taillights. Never liked any car with those long vertical lights.
The interior ranks amongst the best i've seen from any SUV. Dare i say the XC90 i sat in recently interior was even nicer than my Nappa X5 slightly. All that for about 10K less too. Alan

yeah, they claim it is 315 hp... Look, i could not even finish my test drive, got out and asked the sales guy to take me back. That is how disconnected it feels. It lost its "solidity" if you will. It felt like i was back in my passat which i had had for about 3 years, except passat was 25k, not 65+K. Ones i got back to my F15, i even patted it on its dash, that how great was to get back to it.

Load up a 35i with the same options, and the XC90 does present a good value, and many aren't going to really care about how the power is delivered, as long as it is adequate. The X5 threads that talk about how one drives 130 mph to get milk, while debatable, are also rarely how these cars are utilized. That said, total cost of ownership would concern me entertaining an XC90 new. Their historic depreciation is too steep and will more than nullify any up front savings if similar value loss is experienced in this generation.

Yes its bigger. My comment was based on the styling similarities between the two.
I never test drove it so no idea how it stacks up but it does have more HP/TQ than a stock 35i. I wouldn't dismiss it simply because its a 4 cylinder. I was impressed when I drove my friends JB tuned 328i. Felt very similar to a stock 335i. Alan
