Programmable buttons

What do most of you use your programmable buttons for (the 1-8 buttons)? Also, are there only 8 available?

I currently have 1-5 as my favorite Sirius stations, and 6-7 as direct dial phone numbers. I know some of you indicated in separate threads that you can store iDrive commands into these buttons. What are some suggestions?

**I apologize in advance if this has been discussed but a cursory search did not find an aggregate post for this.**

Do people use the voice commands? I'm mostly using my programmable buttons for phone numbers, and a couple for iDrive menus ie saved radio stations, profile selection, and the last is to navigate home.

Things like the sport display etc I call up using voice commands.

Because there is only 8 I've tied to make sure I only use them for things I can't reliably use voice command for...

This seems useful, as I have diesel too. Are you referring to the BMW Online fuel finder app?

I am probably alone in this, but I never store my home address in my car navigation. I usually store an address nearby - like a local gas station or office building.

I've been concerned about that in the past as well, but since I keep my registration and insurance info in the glove, it's a moot point. The "bad guy" can still find me.
All kidding aside, the common scenario here is auto theft and most thieves want nothing to do with the actual owner in terms of figuring out where they live etc.
Now if you're talking "Law & Order SVU" type scenarios, then yes, leave no trace of who you are.

The good debate could be long and forever.

I'm also the one leaving no info in the car. If you can find my info via the VIN# and license plate, go ahead. I don't store the home garage remote in the car, either.

But, I do store the address a few blocks nearby.

I know I won't be able to stop those professionals, but I want to make sure those spur-of-the-moment guys won't make my home easy.

#5 - I never use it yet. I just want to make sure I remember it or I can remind the auto wash guys...

#8 - It is recommedned by the friend. If you don't want your car passenger to listen to what you say thru the speaker, you can disconnect your BT phone by the button and use your hand-free alternative.

Yes the BMW online fuel finder. I filter for diesel by distance. Works great

It is navigate home, and you are correct to be concerned. HOME just gets me in the neighborhood, not to my door

I like 3 and 8 - I'll be adding. Radio stations are on my heads up. Most phone calls and Nav destinations arev ia voice.

What are the steps to do this (not diesel but fuel in general) and how does BMW online fuel find compare to the Gas Buddy app with the Top Tier designations?

BTW, I do two phone numbers, two navigation locations, two radio stations, BMW manual and nav change to gray for traffic.

I guess I never knew you could do so much with the programmable buttons... Probably because I don't have my car yet. Is this relevant in all of the more recent bummers?

Those are #4 & #5 respectively on MattBianco's list above so it can be done?

I tried this and the label in iDrive is "BMW Online". Any way for it to be labeled the gas finder app? To clarify: The label when you place your finger lightly over the programmable button.

Make sure you are not viewing it when you try to store to a memory button, but are at the menu point when you are about to select it....one step back.
