2017 X5 40E - updates? (MB now with 13.3 kWh battery)
Beside the new NAV with Carplay, anyone know anything new coming to the 2017 models? I would love to see the new battery tech come in 2017 - the i3 is being updated so I'm hoping the X5 will be updated prior to the redesign due in 2018.
I just saw that MB is upping the batteries on their plug-ins almost 50% and adding Fast charging as well as wireless. "The new 2017 edition of the S 500 e (which also gets a face-lift) will now arrive with a 13.3 kWh battery – good for a 53% improvement, and should translate to at least 19 miles (30 km) of realistic all-electric range (EPA)…perhaps more, as the necessary “unused/reserved” percentage of the pack will likely be decreased." http://insideevs.com/2017-mercedes-s...1-miles-range/ http://insideevs.com/mercedes-to-off...rging-in-2018/ |

Unless I've missed something, the only information on the 2017 X5 from BMW is the German price list for the X5/6 M.
http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1264053 Nothing yet on the 2017 40e. |

You are correct. From what I have read and heard from my dealer is that the 2017 xDrive40e is not due for some time. Regarding the battery, in the city I am getting a combined 56mpg. On the highway I am at 28mpg. I am still early in my ownership so hopefully things will continue to improve.

Curious how many miles you are getting on a full charge in the warmer weather. How many kWh are useable from the battery? I have a 20 mile commute each way and was hoping to stretch the estimated range as I can charge at work and home but thinking it's too far. Was hoping for better than 28 on the highway - is that on longer (>90 min) trips at lower than 70mph? |

If I use Auto eDrive (which I use 90% of the time) I have never had an issue with the battery draining out. Some things to take in mind. I live in the greater Seattle area and have hills. The benefit for me is that as I coast down a hill, the battery charges. The charge also increases when I break down hill. This may not seem like much bit it adds up. Daily, I make a 25 to 30 mile trek around town and have 15% to 25% of charge remaining.
My highway trips are at 70mph or less and I am getting 28mpg. This number is a bit skewed as I love throwing the car in Sport mode and letting it rip for a few dozen miles. If I stayed in conservative driving mode, I bet I could get in the 30's easily. |

I have one due to be delivered mid september.
Dealership told me that the only things which would perhaps be added is the Iperformance package... Blue sides around the logo's in the center of the wheelcaps, blue line in the radiator vent and that's about it... So I don't think you will need to expect shocking changes in X540e technology for 2017 I guess. Just some cosmetics to try to subtle tell people it's a hybrid... |

Delivery delay?
Folks,
Howdy. I ordered an 2017 X5 40e from the dealer. They had an allocation I was able to get and I excitedly traced my SAV through the production process. The car is done and the automated 1800 number tells me it has been released to a carrier (even though I did performance center delivery) but my dealer sent me a screen shot saying it was on an engineering hold. The email said it was awaiting EPA/CARB approval and no 2017 X5 40e units were able to be sold in the US. I found their CARB approval, but am unsure about the EPA. Does anyone know anything about this delay? I wonder how long it will last? Thanks!! |

Welcome to the waiting club. I've been waiting a month for my X5 (built on 8/5) to clear the VPC.
Until the EPA publishes the fuel economy numbers for the 2017 X5 40e, BMW cannot print a window sticker. As things are now, BMW will happily build the vehicles and then hold them indefinitely at the VPC. You can check the EPA's published fuel economy data at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.shtml. The site updates every week between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. |

I called CS earlier today and was told the work order hadn't started yet but I didn't ask if the hold had been lifted. |
