Who has the 40e?

The dealers are pushing the 40e and I want to know owners thoughts on their purchase. Anyone?

I would think you mean April not August (spell check most likely). I ordered a 40e on Monday (3/07) and it started the build process on Thursday (3/10). I should have it in about three weeks.

I'll share my thoughts upon arrival and use!

BigKutta Good Question, Well Asked! Have been wondering the same, especially if any members in UK have real world experience of alleged fuel economy and range on pure electric. Not forgetting the handling.

Hi everyone, my first post as I have just took delivery of the BMW X5 40e with the m sport package last week and I have been driving it for a week. I will post some pictures once the weather is better.

So far it has been fantastic to drive. I have managed to get around 35 kms on pure electric during my work commute which is around 50 kms both ways. I have been charging it using the household charger provided overnight (i.e around 7 hours of charging on low setting)

I did put a full tank of petrol last week upon delivery which gave me a range of 704 kms. After a full week of driving to work and back including some driving around this week-end the fuel range indicator shows 684 kms.

jrs2295 Congratulations and welcome. Would be good to see some shots when you can of your car on the beautiful Island of Mauritius. Was there only last month at Grande Gaube - I miss the sunshine and the people.
Enjoy your car.

Thank you very much for the welcome message. I live in Tamarin on the west coast overlooking the sea. I will try to get some nice shots next week-end to share.

Baunton, if you decide to come back, do not hesitate & give me a shout and if that is okay with you, I can take you for a drive in some nice spots on the island

I was curious why they have three settings for the charging rate, which are MAX (the fastest), REDUCED and LOW. Why would you not want to always use MAX instead of LOW?

There has been some concern that routine use of faster charging rates might have an adverse impact on the battery life relative to slower charging rates. More recent studies have suggested that the potential adverse impact of rapid charging (even at rates much faster than the max rate of the 40e) may not be as significant as previously postulated.

http://www.torquenews.com/2250/resul...news-ev-owners

Also, max charging rates will put more of an electrical load on the circuit supplying electricity, which may not be desirable in some situations.

Thanks for posting the link to the article. Also the explanation on the electrical load on a circuit makes sense. Question answered!

We got ours today.

I thought the wife would like to get a new car after 10.5 years of driving an Xterra (fantastic truck, BTW) so past couple weeks I was looking. My 328 was at the dealership for headlight troubles and I took a testdrive in the X5 xdrive35i. Thought it was exactly what my wife would like. I did note that the saleslady told me they'd been getting several electric X5s in stock and couldn't move them.

I did research concerning lease rates, average days on lot, etc and the wife test drove the xdrive35i. She did not like the interior color. I didn't like that there was no way I'd get a deal on it because the lease credits only $2000 and that the 35i is a quick seller. Then the wife saw the 40e and asked "is that electric only?" once she learned it was a plug-in hybrid she test drove it. Loved it.

1.5 hours later it was all hers with first month, title and doc fee down. $9k off MSRP. The dealership had several on the lot (small dealership) accounting for half their total X5 inventory. I knew they had to move it.

Very pleased with sales process, etc from the BMW dealership.

Bosch EL-51253 30amp charging station now ordered from Amazon. Until that arrives (and installed) it's the 110V.

I have placed an order for one.
It is scheduled for production in week 15 + shipping to Norway, so I expect it beginning of June.

Congratulations! Based on the experience with ours thus far I think you will be happy, although the wait will be difficult!

What colors did you choose?

Thanks, the wait is hard!

I have taken a big chance with the colors, it can turn out both ways..

I did not want yet another blue/black car with black interior, I've had three in a row now (night blue, carbon-, jerez black) neither did we (she) want grey or white, so we ended up with Pyrite Brown exterior.

Most interior colours are not recommended with Pyrite, and since we have two small kids and a black haired dog, light colours is out of the picture, which leaves only nutmeg or black, so I chose Nutmeg to get the Merino leather instead of Dakota.

Either it works, or I will be driving a big turd..

My previous F15 was Sparkling Brown, which is similar to Pyrite Brown (if not the exact same thing with a different name for the EU) and it was beautiful, especially in the bright sunshine. Unfortunately we had a serious accident with that vehicle and we choose Mineral White this time, primarily because of the ease of keeping it clean. I would think that nutmeg interior would look great. If you are happy, and hopefully you will be, what others think will not be a matter of concern!

I've attached a picture of our previous X5 so you can see the paint color. Hopefully it is the same.

I have a 2016 F15 xdrive40e that I picked up at the beginning of January. It only gets 19-21 miles on pure electric but I have made it to and back from work (12 mi each way) on a full charge.

I only have two issues with the car so far. I do not like grey front grills and sometimes you cannot tell if the engine is started or not cause it is so quiet.

I went with Space Grey with Black interior.

Thinking of X5 40e. Should I wait until the 2017 models are out?

Dealer ETA is end of June, beg of July for this model. Apparently only one dealer in GTA has it for demo, and there are none on hand to buy!

I would wait especially at this point unless you can get a better deal but highly unlikely. You are aware it's only a 5 seater (no option for 3rd row) unless you don't need one.

Are you waiting just to wait or for something specific?

No I'm not waiting, the 40e wouldn't work for my family. I need a 3rd row

Almaretto was asking you why would you wait for a 2017 model versus getting the car now as per scanido question: Thinking of X5 40e. Should I wait until the 2017 models are out?
