Nokian Snow Tires

Hi All,

I realized it's still July, but I figure I might as well get snows now.

I have the stock 20" rims and I've heard Nokians are the best snow tires out there.

Where is the best place to buy them? Can I get stock sizes?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Great great great tires. When I saw what difference they made on my friends Mercedes Viano , I got a set of my own. Cant recall ever having a spin with them on my F15, despite using the spikeless ones.

Do they come in sizes that fit the stock 20" wheels?

I think the Hak 8 is the only tire available in the 315's

Hmm I don't even see that. Definitely don't want studded tires since we don't get THAT much snow here.

Any other suggestions for the 20s?

sgtpeper are you going to buy a 2nd set of rims for the snow tires? I'm thinking about going that route vs having a tire shop R&R tires on my factory rims each year.

I'm just going to use the same rims. I don't really feel like buying a second set right now.

Ok, no studs then you are down to Toyo GSi5 or a couple of Pirelli, (I think Ice and Snows and Winter Carving Edge) There is a member here from Toronto I think, who loves his Toyos, but unless you are in extreme conditions then I would consider the Conti DWS06. Many on this forum like them and you can leave them on year round.

I have the Pirelli ice and snow and was very happy with them this past winter. I was surprised at how nice they felt, for a snow tire.

I had the 20" Conti DWS on my E70 and they were OK. I didn't think they were spectacular in the snow. Not sure if any 20" snow rated tire will be that spectacular anyway...

The thing is DWS06 isn't a snow tire but an all season tire.. although it is marketed as being good in snow too. A good dedicated snow tires will make world of a difference even on a 20" wheel. With that said.. If the DWS06 were okay in the snow I would stick with that.. unless you "must" drive in the snow, then get a good snow tire.

I currently have the Dunlop Summer run flat tires on my X5 and drove it all winter last year.. even in a few inch of snow and negative F temps. Not great, but I was able to drive it in control. When it snows, I normally don't drive because even if you have the best snow tires in the world, it isn't going to help you when another driver comes around the corner or slides through an intersection and hit your car.

I have the Pirelli Ice & Snow winters for my 469M's (OE sizes), been very happy with them overall. For a wide tire set, they do perform rather well for my driving needs. Had them in some deep snow over the past two years.
