Congrats and enjoy!

Wait till you get past the break in period... the 50i will bring smiles to your face and you will not get bored with it.

My break-in was wearing it in with some redlining. Been running great since with no oil burning issues and whatnot *knock on wood*

I don't think so! Always been a fan of keeping vehicles stock. As of today, I can't picture making any aftermarket changes.

+1. Stock all day! I'm mainly afraid that any aftermarket changes will mess with the coding or transmission, if that ever happens.

Nice. I think I'm going to try your method of break in procedures if I stick with BMW for the next car.

Both my current X6 50i and my former 650 GC started pinging me with low oil warnings after about 6K miles on the clock. On both cars, I followed the manufacturer suggested break in procedures.

After the first low oil warning on the 650, I would have to go out of my way to the service center for oil top offs every 1000 miles or so. A very annoying inconvenience.

My current X6 gave me it's first low oil warning 2 weeks ago at just over 6K miles. I really like this car, but I know I'm going to be frustrated with the visits to the service center... again and again.

I'm glad your method of break in has worked out well for you. Hopefully the OP will have a similar experience because other than that annoying warning chime, only a full on M car could be more appealing when stepping on the accelerator!

That is interesting. My dealership told me there isn't a break-in period for this car...

Seems like it's better to do a face to face pick up when taking delivery. Your CA probably took the time to walk you around your new car and give you some sort of orientation.

My X6 was driven to my job for delivery from PA to NY. the driver just handed me the keys, then drove the 650 back to PA.

After flipping through the owner manual (yeah, I still do that with certain items I buy, lol) there was an expressed break in procedure that I followed. If I remember correctly, it was to keep it under 2K RPM for the first 1200 miles.

I'm out of town for work, but I can take a pick of the page in the manual and post it here when I get back next week.

The thing is, before I bought this vehicle, I did a test drive. When I did the test drive, the sales guy kept saying go ahead and floor it, and I was trying to baby it seeing it was a new car.... Since mine was a dealer stock model with some 40 miles already on there, I figured at some point, someone already floored it a dozen times, no point in me babying it.

I doubt my warranty is going to last two years let alone four. I'm already at almost 25k miles in my 11 months.

I do enjoy driving it though and I'm vigilant about checking the car to make sure it's in top working order.
