Is the DPF still a problem area for urban drivers?
considering an X5 diesel. Been reading about DPF failures for people who don't take a lot of long journeys. This would be my usage pattern - mostly city driving and long trips every 3 or 4 months.
Is this still a problem? Anyone know if the DPF falls under California's required 8 year emissions warranty? |

I do a pretty good mix of city/highway mileage, and with just over 80k on the odometer, I've had zero DPF or carbon issues to speak of. I've have two emissions related failures (new turbo / diverter valve issue and an EGR temp / pressure sensor). The key is allowing the vehicle to reach full operating temp, this is crucial for several reasons. Short trips will you against you in a gasser as well. Just be sure to stretch the vehicles legs and give it a good run, nothing wrong with some WOT pulls (on-ramps, backroads, etc...). Pick your poison.
