35D. What is this on the turbo?

EDIT: This is on a 35d.

Preparing to delete and I saw this was not attached. I reattached it, but does anyone know its purpose? VGT? I did not notice any boost issues prior to finding it, and still notice nothing strange now that it is connected.

Interesting - apart from swinging away from attached point, does the circled arm move (up/down) or is it fixed position once it is reattached? I wonder if it is some sort of bracket or stabilizing arm.

the diesel doesnt have a wastegate like a gasser does, but it is the same location as the wastegate for gassers so thats why I wonder if its for VGT. I just find it strange if it is VGT then why did I not experience boost issues up to this point? I def did not drive like a grandma lol

real oem calls it a coupling arm. There should be a c-clip.

I've already reattached it, just tying to confirm what it is and what function it serves

Yeah you're right, it's for VGT. Re boost issues, I'm guessing it is noticeable at the very top of performance range, and in 90% of driving the 3 litres of diesel torque is enough by itself.

Not exactly the same, but kinda like in the history of removing intake swirl flaps no one has yet to spot a difference of altering a /supposedly/ performance system.
