This is normal

Hey guys,

I had this same "issue" and brought to my dealer to diagnose. I wasn't sure if this was actually a problem because many high performance cars have this feature built in to their computer programming, the point is to try and warm the engine up as quickly as possible before driving.

Enjoy the beast in all it's glory (even it's rough starts) cheers!

This is what mine is doing, cold start or starting after it reaches full operating temperature.

Does the same thing again. So I rev it up a few times or hold the idle high until it starts to warm up. Very annoying. Hopefully the dealership will figure it out on my next visit.

wow i would bring that in asap. 100K+ car needing your to rev it up at every start to not stall out is ridiculous.

I have the same issue just like yours. Have they come up with any solutions?

This happened to me once recently (I have around 1400 miles on the clock). I killed the ignition and restarted and it hasn't happened again (been about 2 weeks).

If it happens again, I'm taking it in.

So , I've dropped my car at the dealer for service , and asked them to check the cold start issue.

They've done a programmation , but I still have the issue ...

Ok so I have determined the issue with mine. Apparently with the newest DME software available at dealership has an issue with catless downpipes even with JB4 turned on. The DME's can see cat efficiency immediately even with JB4 clearing fault memory on every start-up, so the fault would come back in less than a minute. Installed factory cats back on vehicle, problem solved immediately. I then drove it for 2 weeks, never once did the idle fluctuate or engine stall during cold start. I miss the sound and throttle response with the catless and I've found a solution for less than $100. All you need is 2 of these,http://www.ebay.com/itm/Catted-O2-ox...ZYR88f&vxp=mtr They fit just using the straight part. Not so sure what the deal is with the stock catted cars though. But mine is fixed!!

Did you reset all engine adaptation values after you installed the catted 02 sensor spacers? Because as soon as I removed the catless downpipes and reinstalled the OEM cats, the problem was immediately resolved. Thats why I decided to try the catted spacers and still dont have any issues. But I did reset adaption values after I installed them.

I have a friend that works at a dealership, used BMW ISTA software. Maybe you can take it to a dealership and have them do it for you, only takes about 15 minutes to do. It will idle rough for a few minutes afterwards because its recalibrating everything. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, just bought an X6 '15, trying to surprise my wife with it tonight. I just tried to start it up (cold start, outside temp 70), the car revved to 1,500, stalled out, restarted itself two times over within 10 seconds or so. I got 500 miles on factory warranty left, so will bring it in ASAP.

The video's that got posted are unavailable, could "Can-am" or "BMWadrenaline" repost their video? I'll try to reproduce mine tomorrow morning (cold-start) and will post if it happens again.

Thanks guys!

Looks like a software update solved it

BMW performed a software engine update (under warranty). Only had the chance to test it once (with cold engine), but they think it should be solved. Will keep you posted.
