Official owner (long thread with pics)

Background: I’ve always liked BMW’s and have had the pleasure of owning an E30 M3, E46 M3 and a 08 Hartge X5 4.8… all in Alpine White! I love the AW BMW offers as it’s clean and “pure”. The last BMW I owned was the 08 X5 which I sold at the end of 2010 due to work (needed a truck ) and haven’t had the chance to purchase another BMW until this past week. As of this weekend, I’m the official owner of a 2017 X5M.

Journey: When I started looking about two months ago, I was set on getting a new 2017 AW on red X5M. I did briefly look to see if there were any used low mileage ones so I could save on depreciation. I quickly realized that 1) there are not a lot of 2017 AW/Red - especially with my desired options – 21’s, B&O, Apple car play, Exec package, 2) used 2017’s are still priced in the mid-90’s and 3) since I think I can get 5-8% off on a new one, I really would be saving only $5-10K. So with that realization, I decided to go back to my search for new and starting reaching out to dealers all over the country.

In the meantime, I was spending countless hours researching more about the X5M’s on this forum and trying to learn more about the good and bad of the truck. One thread that I read through was the post about the Esoteric X5M. I have seen the Esoteric X5M for sale on cars.com (and on here) and while I appreciate all the top end mods and countless hours of detailing and polishing work that the truck has, it was priced above what it was worth to me.

As I continued my search for the new truck, I kept going back to the Esoteric X5M. Although it wasn’t my preferred color (AW), I always liked carbon black (esp CB on the E46 M3) and challenged myself to expand my color options. After a few days, I realized it's time to step out and decided to make a run at the Esoteric X5M.

Fast forward to last week, I reached out to the dealership one morning and received a call back from Steve Serrano @ Byers Imports within an hour. We talked about the truck and knowing where I needed to be in terms of price, I threw out my offer to Steve. We exchanged a few more calls/emails/texts and we settled on a price that I felt was very fair.

Since the X5M is in Columbus OH and I was in Houston, I asked if a PPI could be done by the local dealership. Steve happily obliged and took care of everything I asked for (ie. sending me pics of the truck on their showroom floor, pics of the mileage pre and post PPI, calling the previous owner to authorize BMW to release his service records, moving it back inside the showroom after PPI, etc.) Needless to say, Steve went way above and beyond and is a top-notch guy (I highly recommend him if anyone is looking for a Porsche in the Columbus OH area). In addition to getting a PPI done, I reached out to the previous owner (Todd @ Esoteric) to ask him a few questions. Knowing he’s super busy, he was gracious enough to answer my questions. Thanks Todd!

Needless to say, the PPI came back clean and my flight was booked. At this time, I wasn’t sure if I was going to drive it back or ship it ( I mean, what better way to bond with your X5M than over 21 hours and 1200 miles ) but Steve came through again and gave me his contact that the dealership uses to ship their new Porsches (from Caymans to GT3s). They gave me their corporate rate so shipping it was!

I arrived in Columbus this Friday afternoon and went straight to Byers. I met Steve and he had already pulled out the X5M to the front. I walked around and admired it, drove it and signed the paperwork. On Saturday, Steve gave me a heads up of when the Transport truck was supposed to arrive and I was there to watch them load it.

Once again, major thanks to Steve Serrano @ Byers Imports. He really went out of his way to get me where I needed to be on price as well as getting the truck checked out and ready to go. Well, without further delay, here are the pics from this weekend… thanks for reading!

Here are a few pics of my AW BMW’s I’ve had in the past

Great thread. It's great how you told every single detail from the moment you were considering the car until you shipped it. I think it's equally great that you chose to go with the CB, it gives you a different feel than what you were used to with AW.

Congrats on the new ride, looking great! Hope you enjoy it in good health.

Please post more pictures once you get it home. Lots of interior shots please!

It sure is Akra. It's fine... I wish it was louder at times b/c it's still pretty tame compared to my GMG on the 997 turbo. I thought about switching it out for an Eisenmann but I like the titanium set up and the CF tips
