Cell Phone Holder Removal

Is there a graceful way to remove the cell phone holder that's located in the console between the two front seats? It takes up a lot of room but since it must have power and connectivity to the iDrive system I don't want to just rip it out.

Finally did this on my X5 a few weeks ago. I strongly agree with whoever posted that the process of separating the wires was easier while sitting in the back seat. Start to finish, took about 15 minutes.

Do you get any codes/errors with that phone holder device disconnected?
