About to close the deal on a used x5m... PPI?
Hey folks,
I'm about to close the deal on a used 2017 x5m (6k miles) and wanted to ask if there was any other due diligence items I need to do before finalizing the deal. I'm flying up to look at it this friday and to sign papers so I have this week to take care of anything I need done. I have two porsches that were both bought used and had a PPI done by a porsche dealer. Is there something similar that can be done for the x5m? I know one of the biggest concerns when I bought my 997tt (manual) porsche was how many over-revs it had... is it safe to say that since the x5m is automatic, I don't need to worry about it? The seller is happy to take it to their local BMW dealer to get anything I need done so just wondering what I need to ask for. I've been reading the forums for the past few weeks and know of the wheel bearing and squeaky brake issues. The x5m is still under factory warranty so I'm not concerned about that. Thanks in advance! Edwin

You can call any authorized BMW dealer and give them the VIN, and they should be able to provide you with the full history of the car. That's what I did with my '16 X5M that I bought with 6,700 miles on it. Also, for ~$700 you can "refresh" the maintenance coverage so it transfers to you.

squeaky brakes and clicky wheel bearings are pretty standard on this car. if you see it come up in the service history, don't be alarmed.

Commit only after seeing it with your own eyes. Carry a magnifying glass to closely inspect anything suspicious- could give you leverage when doing final negotiations if you find something. Some users quietly repair fender benders and which of course are not publicly recorded anywhere.

Hey - just curious how you handled paperwork and payment in an out of state purchase. Selling one of my cars and curious as to a process that protects both parties.

I had the front brakes changed under warranty and the squeaks have stopped for now. Previous owner had also complained of squeaking brakes but only cleaning was done. SA tried to say it's normal for any high performance large brakes but I insisted and mentioned I had called BMWNA about it and they wanted it to be fixed. I exaggerated my car sounds like a school bus or garbage truck and not a luxury sports SUV.

I'm not sure what state you're in but Texas has a website that allows you (Seller) to report that you sold your vehicle at a certain date. Quote:
