Not sure if thats total though....plus if he paid over MSRP, insurance is not responsible for that I think, unless there is gap insurance on top

Apparently he got some "collectible car" insurance that's supposed to pay off full amount if it's totaled (they pay whatever amount you wanted them to insure, but it's limited miles etc)

As someone that will travel to get the car I want I can't imagine taking a flight to get a Civic.

He flew from Philadelphia to Boston to pick up the car, and not much later on Sunday, he was sulking through a five-hour ride home in a tow truck.

Highly doubt it, the only things that would justify that car being deemed a total loss would be a) pity b) ridiculously high salvage value or c) lack of available parts coupled with pity.

again, I doubt it.

I'm a field appraiser for an insurance company, and I'm not seeing a total loss in those photos. I always get a kick at the amount of misinformation in some of the 'crashed car' threads that are out there. Some of the comments on Jalopnik are so inaccurate it's comical.

I do feel bad for him too, I would be angry even if it were a base Civic, but to have it be a Type R that you waited and traveled for would put me in full melt-down mode.

Hope the poor bastard at least leases the thing if it's not totaled. Can give it back when the lease is up.

Personal feelings on the specific car aside just as a gear head heart has to go out to the guy. Really really sucks.
