Definitely a scam. Received a similar text years ago when selling a car privately.

Google it, you'll see how common this is. Typically the message is just slightly modified to differentiate it from others. In my case the guy was stationed on a US warship in the gulf and unable to call, but wanting to buy for his son who lived in a different state than me.

Where is the risk in asking them to send payment? Doesn't that only require you to provide them an email address linked to the PayPal address? Although does seem like a scam based on the internet, so all just a waste of time.

They'll charge it back once the goods are received and Paypal will decide in the "buyers" favor because that's what Paypal does. That's the risk.
