Anyone know how to take the F15 X5 Kidney Grilles out (DIY)?

Some models it is just a pop out, not sure on the F15??

I heard about people who would take kidneys out and you would wake up in an ice bath. Apparently, you wouldn't feel anything either. That's probably how I would take my kidneys out if I had to.

I have taken them out in numerous BMWs and typically they are as simple as giving some pressure and pulling them right out....

There are minor instances that are a bit more difficult like on my e92 LRP M3, but otherwise fairly simple...

Thanks guys...now I can change my grills and sell my kidneys!

I have popped them on my M3, X6M previously...the F15 just seems a little different...I will spend more time looking at them...

There is a large radiator cowl held on by two screws and air intake tube, remove/disconnect them and you should be able to squeeze your arms to unclip the tabs at the back of the kidney grille

1. Open Hood
2. Remove two screws that holds the radiator cowl
3. De-attached the intake tube starting from the rear side of the cowl
4. Squeeze arm and use chopsticks to unclip the tabs

You are welcome.

I added an extra mesh behind the kidney grille as my radiator fins are getting hammered by rocks because of the oversized grille spacing.

I swapped the grill on my wifes yesterday... there are 5 torx screws towards the front of the engine compartment parallel to the front bumper. remove these and you can pull the grill section forward enough to use a flat head screwdriver to pop the clips. top first, then sides, then bottom with your hands.

Easy 5 minute job. I ordered some replacement grills painted black sapphire surround (no more ugly chrome!) and matte black slats.

The newer Bimmers seem to be more difficult to take out. My prior car a Gran Coupe, was very difficult, the head service manager took them out and was not easy. He did it without taking off the bumper, but then everything had to be adjusted multiple times to have the hood and bumper sit flush, real PITA....id leave it to the pros that way they mess up its on them..
