Reliability of a n63tu after 60k miles?
Hello, I was told that the X5s would probably have the most information about the n63tu so that's why I'm here. I'm currently looking at vehicles with the n63tu motor(2014 550i with 59k miles for 23k sold by bmw and 2014 650i with 76k miles for originally 26k but they lowered their price to 21k). I've heard good and bad things about the n63tu. I'm familiar with the n54 if that helps with anything. My main concern is how reliable the n63tu is after 60k miles. I got a dealership and 2 mechanic shops in the family just in case something goes wrong on the engine so it'll maybe be cheaper. But inform me with everything you guys got. Thank you!!!!

Your going to hear good and bad as you said, but there are a few guys here I believe with 100k with little no issues. Mine has about 63k , only issues I have had were plugs and coils ,they were changed cause was having engine malfunction and dealer did it under cpo . Also just had both crankcase hose’s changed free of charge.Other then that no other issues to speak of except for adding 2 quarts of oil every 3,500-4,000 miles, got it with 40k / cpo.

My wife mostly drives it and she probably gets on it once in a while cause says how it feels pretty fast lol. I on the other hand drive it hard every chance I get, so basically everytime I driveit I’m going to be hard on it.

I’m at a little under 50k on mine with no issues. I also add oil as noted above, usually have to add 2 qts at about 3-4K Miles. I change oil at 5k intervals.
So far so good and waaaaaaay better than the 4.8 I had in my E70.

Hi Everyone, my first post. I just bought the 2014 X5 50I with the N63TU engine with 67K miles on it. I haven't had it long enough to know how it uses oil. The engine is strong and has been a joy to drive...hard. The previous owner put 40K+ miles in 1 year and 7 months. I would think these were highway miles. I'm not too concerned with the mileage. I'll be happy if I can get 40K more miles out of it.

I wish I could go 3-4k before adding 2 qts of oil. I'm at the BMW norm of 1400 miles or 700 a qt. until last night when I got prompted to add another 2 qts which is less than 1k miles since last top off. I only added 1 qt since I wanted to test again but got prompted to add 2 qts again just after 20 miles. WTF!! Time to bring it in again. Other than the mysterious oil consumption it's been a beast of a car but driven with care most of the time.

15' with just over 54k on the odo. Mechanically I think it's still a reliable car since nothing major has happened but it's all those damn sensors coil packs that are fragile. I'm glad that I still have CPO for that extra peace of mind. If I can get to 100k with nothing major I'd say that's pretty reliable in my book especially for all these newerish cars.

The car went in for drivetrain malfunction, and they literally checked everything, even checked to make sure it wasn’t a leaky fuel injector or injectors. I was quite surprised myself, the injectors were fine so they tested the coils and plugs, there were multiple codes stored for misfires, so they replaced all plugs and coils under cpo. I was shocked as coils I can see them replacing , because they did that for me under cpo on my 335 / n54 engine, but plugs I would figure are wear and tear item. The only thing I can think of is maybe they figured the coils killed my plugs, but then again my plugs had 57k. I’m not going to complain if they want to cover it.

Car went back in because was running rough at times , message said it was ok to continue driving but to get it looked at, I scanned the codes and got POOBC and PO171. I scheduled a appointment and that same day they said your crank case hoses were the reason and then told me they were covered under cpo and I was like damn that’s awesome. My dealer / SA has been great to deal with.

2015 and also the crankcase hoses which I'm sure is pretty common for everyone.
