F15/E70 suspension question

Does anyone know if the E70 front strut top hat/mount is the same size and bolt pattern as the F15?

Can anyone confirm the rear air springs are the same? I see some places have the same part numbers, and some places do not.

Basically, I'm trying to determine if the E70 spacer lift kit will work with the F15 with little to no modifications, or if it will be easier for me to machine something myself.

Run part numbers using https://www.realoem.com/ will give you exact information.

RealOEM is good and all, except its BMW parts and they will almost always be different part numbers between chassis even if the part is basically the same or shares the same dimensions. Like I said with the rear air springs some places give me different part numbers, but other places, like Bilstein for example, give me the same part number for both chassis. I know the air line on the E70 looks like it runs the same way to the same spot as the F15, but the F15 has a cutout for it where as the E70 has a hole that it runs through. That alone will give different OEM part numbers even if everything else about them is identical. I'm just trying to confirm because I'm sure someone here has had the two side by side.

Top hats/upper mounts I know are different, but the triangular bolt patterns could still match and thats all that I really need to know about for those. RealOEM isn't going to tell me the bolt pattern for upper strut mounts.

So I did get a confirmation that the rear air springs are essentially the same even though BMW shows different part numbers. They will swap between models.

Still unsure about bolt spacing for the front upper mounts.

This is an ancient thread but I have also started looking at how similar the e70 and F15 shocks and struts are.

I have both an F15 and E70 front mount and I can confirm that the bolt spacing and pattern is the same.

The F15 does have an inner lip on it that is about 3" in diameter and 4mm high. I haven't check to see if the center strut tower hole on the E70 is large enough to fit it yet. Any spacer used would have to have a 3" or larger ID to work with the F15 hat.

I also haven't check the overall lengths yet to see if the strut/spring/hat combo could be interchanged. The F15 clearly has a higher spring perch and a shorter spring but that might not change the overall length.

ah man, if only you had been about 2 months sooner!

I bit the bullet and ordered the ECS 1.5" lift for the E70. Everything fit without issue minus the front upper spacers because of that lip you mentioned on the top strut mount. I had to bevel the spacers to fit around the lip.

I did notice the rear ended up raising slightly more than the front did, but I have rear air so maybe the sensor arm lengths are a little different between the E70 and F15. But regardless it worked out great and I'm happy with the result.

I might end up going wit hthe next size taller sidewall in the future, and doing so I would want another inch out of the lift, so if I do I'll turn some new spacers now that I know what it needs.

Bad lighting in the photo, but after the lift and tires.

My mitigation plan is to make a 4 to 6mm spacer that goes on top of the mount. I can have it cut easily at my local waterjet shop.

Any chance you could measure some strut lengths for me?

I want to compare the length of the f15 shocks from the common connection to the top of the strut mount to compare to the e70. The springs are longer on the e70 but the spring perch is higher on the f15 to compensate.

I want to see if the f15 setup is backward adaptable to e70.

it's good news for me to swap E70 strut to F15 strut. I have both F15 front struts in hand as attached picture
I'm concerned about compatible of EDC function,
please advise is it functional with new EDC module? is there any coding requirement for this?
thank you very much for you advice.

I think the detailed post probably makes more sense in the e70 forum.

I will move the discussion to the thread there.
