I tried, honestly I did

OK, so before I get flamed about using the search feature I did. I searched on getting towed, towed, transmission lockout and could not find what I was looking for.

A ways back, there was a thread about how to get your X5 in neutral if it had zero battery power so you could get it pulled up onto a flatbed. I know there is something under the X5 to get it into neutral (or disengaged the transmission) if you have zero power. Does anyone have a picture of what it is under the car you are supposed to manipulate (and how) in case this happens?

Here ya go, video explains it all: (it's for a F10 but it's the same on the F15, E70, F86, etc all models with the ZF8HP.

Awesome ... thanks! Of course he had a manual emergency brake, us with the electronic it's safe to assume to chock the wheels so it doesn't roll.

What if the electronic emergency brake was engaged before having a total power loss, does it disengage with a total power loss?

Perhaps have the info below under your hat (just in case). If you can get a power pack or battery tender or jumper cables to the jump start terminals in the engine bay...you may be able to electronically disable the parking brake if you can get the car's battery in the right spot...which would be..."too weak to start the engine...but strong enough to turn the starter over long enough to get the car into neutral. The TIS also gives a tip that the fuse to the fuel pump can be pulled which can make the aforementioned scenario happen.

Here's a video of how to do the procedure...and the written text from the TIS website can be seen below:

Most likely not, on the E70 there is a manual parking break release cable you will find in the rear left compartment by the tailgate. I think the F15 is still the same. Pop it open and you should see a silverish Cable with a metal end to use with the red emergency tool in the tool kit but a pair of pliers will work too) and a label on it for parking brake release.

But I did look in the manual, I looked under transmission and towing. Nothing .... so perhaps you could enlighten us all with your infinite wisdom and point out a page number in the manual to locate this readily available information.

Unfortunately the f15 doesn't have this...nor the orange tool.

Found the process for releasing the electronic parking brake on page 72 ... thanks for the tip.

Dude, re-read my post and pay attention this time. I wasn't asking about releasing the emergency brake, I was talking about getting the transmission out of Park when there is no power .... a$$-hat ball back in your court.

Don't mind smyles, he's the resident troll. He will pop in from in from time to time to post moronic comments (like: transmission oil is lifetime!, Don't ever change it!)and insult other members. It's kinda his thing. We all have our hobbies I guess.

Don't feel bad about not finding good search results. I find the search functionality on BP to be atrocious - at least the "native" non-Google search functionality. And before someone flames me for "not using it right" or expecting too much, you may want to know that it's the very thing I do for a living for Fortune 100 companies. Search doesn't have to suck this hard. If Google can deliver thoughtfully ranked and relevant results on all the websites in the universe, there's no excuse whatsoever for an organization not being able to deliver relevant and helpful search results on its own website.

Not that I care much about your opinion/innuendos, but just for the record, I never said "transmission oil is lifetime!, Don't ever change it".

But continue with your hobby.

Why bother posting, when you provide nothing of value?
