Awww, you took me off your ignore list? I'm touched. Looks like you're right about the cost of install. That's quite the decent deal at average labor rates, which means they're making it up in the price of the kit itself. Uninstalled looks like a hose job. I'm not sure if it still holds true now, but when I ordered last May, a similar spec'd 50 was exactly 10k more than a 35.
I factored in the mods I wanted beforehand as well. Even with MPPK and a chip, the difference was 8k. |

We are on our 3rd x5 (1st F15), all have been V-8's. When deciding on the F15, we drove the V-8 for a weekend. Was curious about the 6, so we drove it, didn't make it out of the parking lot, my wife commented, "this feels like an x3" (we have had a few). The extra 2 cylinders are just much smoother. Power, exhaust note, and options that come with the 8, as others have mentioned, are icing on the cake. No hate on the 6, it's a great engine, just what worked for us.

I don't remember on the past X5's, but I doubt it. On the F15, our priorities were the V-8. The only other options we got, was M sport (liked the appearance, upgraded seats, and paddles, as I use them a lot especially to downshift), 20", cold, Mocha (wanted something other than black, and also allowed vented front seats). We avoided other options and packages for a host of reasons, HUD, I don't like the reflection of the projection "glass" in the windshield (have it on an M3). Parking, lane, getting too close, blind spot etc, during the weekend we had in an F15, turned off most of it, after playing with it. As for the suspension options, I'm not tracking, or canyon carving a 5xxx lbs SUV, so as I'm sure these options are desirable for many, would be a waste of funds for us after the 1st week or so of ownership and pushing it to see how well it worked. We have several other sports cars (F80 M3 and a race car, to mention 2) that are more appropriate tools for the twisties. The last factor in our option selection, was when I was initially "building" the truck, I realized how expensive it could add up to be, and realized, that I just flat out did not want our SUV MSRP to begin with an "8" (or even more). So we were successful in our quest to be at $79,545 (before discount).
Again just our 2c, and what we went through when buying (actually leased this one this time) this vehicle. |

Different vendors = different pricing??
The pricing from getbmwparts.com is $1,350 uninstalled and the above is from BMW of Tenafly (my local BMW dealer) which is $1,302.29 uninstalled. The point of that post though, was to inform you the cost of the install is NOT double the price of the exhaust, which logically sounds ridiculous in the first place.... but only approx. $140.

It may sound silly for a Heavy SUV to be driven like a sports car but.... BMW did an amazing thing to their X6M... it did the ring in 8:20.. For perspective: E92 BMW M3 Sport Auto ran around the 'Ring in 8:05 & E46 M3, which lapped in 8:22. http://www.autoblog.com/2015/07/17/b...burgring-time/

In the immortal words of my long-time BMW service advisor "BMW V8s are great...as long as they're under warranty." Caveat emptor.
As for the price of the exhaust, consider buying it at a dealer that quotes 3.0 for labor at $110 per, then add in 9.85% tax. Your $1350 exhaust is now $1900. You're right that double was an off-the-cuff overestimation. But $1350 or so uninstalled is only part of the story. |

We have a 50i and don't really think it's worth it. Not because we should have gotten a 35i, but because we might as well have just gotten the M.
I would maybe think differently if I purchase these cars, but on a lease, with the residuals being the same. The price difference between a fully loaded 50i and an M really isn't as much as you would think. And you get a good amount more with the M, in speed, suspension, and styling. |

50i with DHP and msport is worth every penny..unless you have a few extra pennies for the X5M...would i have enjoyed the 35i? not a chance in the world.... unless i went stage3+ on the N55
with DHP and M Suspension/adaptive this PIG sure out hustles alot of sports cars with the Michelin pilot super sports on, and has a great grip threshold for the twisties....not a doubt in my mind, if i could break the speed limit, this "SUV PIG" would be at the top of my list for canyon carving fun, along with small block miata PRHT, Rs7 with dynamic handling, and a inline triple sportbike like my FJ-09 yamaha

I guess it depends how you option both. I traded in my loaded '16 X6 50i for a '16 X6 M and the difference was only $110/month. The insurance was almost the same (maybe $100 for the year). The M was on the lot, not ordered so I didn't have the full leather and B&O I did on the 50i.
