Erratic idle immedicately after start
I have a 2015 X5 35d, and in the past month or so I've noticed something odd immediately after starting the engine. Unfortunately this is an infrequent issue and I have not discovered how to reproduce it yet.
On occasion, when I start the engine the engine rpm drops then immediately revs up. All this happens within a couple of seconds, so the first time I noticed it was when I shifted the car into reverse and got an unwelcome "bump" sensation as the X5 tried to accelerate while I was on the brakes. Most recently, I noticed it on start prior to shifting, so this is not a transmission issue. Anyone else had this happen? Any ideas on how to reproduce it? I just picked the X5 up from the dealer after two days of them unsuccessfully attempting to reproduce it.

I have the same problem with the engine even shutting off when reversing or at low speed. It only does it at startup or on a short trip. I will be taking it in next week again for the 4th time for the same issue. BMW cannot figure it out.

The 35i will do this also. Don't slam it into gear immediately after starting the engine. Give it at least 5 to 10 seconds, especially if the engine if cold.
