Unfortunately those are not All Season Tires.
BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/P SPORT RFT Street/Sport Truck Summer Front: 275/40R20 106W XL Star RSC BMW, Run Flat Load Range: XL Serv. Desc: 106W UTQG: 300 A A The only all seasons available in the stock 20" tire sizes are Continental DWS06, which are NOT run-flats, but can still be used - just get a spare tire kit. I hope you get some appropriate tires ASAP for your safety and those around you. |

FML, they are not all seasons. Post updated. As an aside, after the accident I immediately ordered a set of winter wheels with winter tires (really, they are winter tires) from Detroit Wheel and Tire. For under 2K I got an OEM take off set.

end result is positive. you learned a lesson that only cost you money and inconvenience instead of a life or physical damage to others or yourself. so in the grand scheme of things repairing a vehicle is a small price to pay for what you now consider a valuable lesson. lesson learned, life goes on. i hope your newly repaired and properly equipped X5 gives you many miles of smiles.

at the risk of overstepping my boundaries i am going to volunteer some advice... i do not know how old you are or where you are in life but you find that you learn more from your mistakes than anything else.

Until one of my coworkers called me crazy after he saw me driving it during snow season.... I have no idea why they sell Msport vehicles equipped with summer tires in winter time!! I think BMW should reconsider it especially in Canada!!! Last edited by perry8912; 02-28-2018 at 03:37 PM.. |

I wish BMW has winter wheel set combo as an option (lower cost, of course) when you order the car.

They do. The sales person is supposed to recommend or mention it and if not them then the F&I Manager usually does.

They aren't doing a good job of that unfortunately. I even asked and they said all-seasons. I should have know better than that. Oh well, I swapped them out for DWS06 and plan to just put the Pzeros back on before trade or sale.

Ridiculous because it's an easy sell at that point and a win for the customer/client since they can get it cheaper than over the parts counter. Around here the F&I manager offered it on any vehicle I purchased through a high line dealer that was equipped with summer or high performance tires.

Yup, totally agree. I was planning on getting 22s for the summer and using the 20s for winter and if they offered to sell me a set of all seasons or winter tires at a discount I would have jumped on it for sure.

You have no idea how many Msport owners are driving around with summers. They swear up and down that bmw sucks in the snow too. The problem is the clueless buyers / owners it's not BMW's fault.

I have to agree. You pay a lot of money for an expensive and supposedly practical vehicle, you might as well pay attention to the tires you use. There a lot of marketing tricks every car maker uses to make us buy their products like Xdrive, Quattro, 4Matic etc, but the most important part when driving in poor weather conditions is the actual tires used.
In my country, it is illegal to drive on roads covered in snow without winter or at least very good all season tires. If you get caught using improper tires, the fine is quite significant and the police can even withdraw the car driving authorization ( i am sure that is not the correct phrase) which means your are not allowed to drive that car until you prove that you have proper tires on the vehicle. I guess it was a more expensive lesson but it is good that it was learned. |

There are plenty of reasons why especially from a brand that prides itself on being a driver's car (despite having watered down versions currently of it's sporting past). Anyone who purchases a vehicle with the "sport" package is going to want the sporting feel and handling and you're not getting that with bogus all-season tires that do not perform well in any season.
This is an All-Season tire: Its cheap, comfortable, old men wear them all year around and they feel it is formal and casual at the same time. It sucks 100% of the time. This is a Summer high performance tire: It only has one purpose... to get the most out of the vehicle at a certain time. This is a Winter tire: It is made from materials for a specific function in specific temperatures, conditions and only has two purposes. Traction and satisfaction. This is the garbage you seen on 24"+ wheels: Would you wear a flip flop or a running shoe in a snow storm? Probably not, so why would you put that on a several ton vehicle that travels at high rates of speed in a snow storm or on ice roads?

Many regions outside of the US have strict regulations on proper tires for the seasons. Unfortunately in the land of litigation this is some how overlooked. All the Governing and legislation is done under the guise of safety when in reality it is to mitigate legal risk or revenue generation. When there are real issues about safety it goes unnoticed or unresolved but this is a whole'nother topic in itself.
