Toying with the idea of selling my X5...
Peeps, wanted to see if I could get some feedback on a fair selling price for my X5. I have 83K miles right now and 1 collision on record. Other than that, no real issues that I don't plan to resolve prior to getting it up on Auto Trader and/or eBay. Dropping it off at my mechanic this weekend to have a thorough once over done before I embark on this potential journey. With that, below I have some details on my MSRP and what I've done for extras (pricing things as new). KBB says around 31-34K, what do I on tack for the extras (estimated 27K or so)? 5-10K? Or will I be more successful with a mass part out? Any feedback is appreciated!

well, you may not get much (if any) for the extras. For a 50i with 83k miles and a collision, this will be a hard one to sell, so expect it to be lower than KBB.

I'm assuming 35i. Some pics would be helpful.

I wouldn't expect to get anything extra for the mods but it won't hurt to try.

I'd put it back to stock and sell the mods separately for the best return.

Thanks folks, primarily selling because I really miss driving a car (most recently a 14' E Class). I'm going to be throwing on my winter wheels shortly which are 19's so we'll see how that goes. Maybe 2" of extra rubber will help the ride a bit...

Only way you would be made whole for the mods is to find an enthusiast who is not only willing to buy your X5, but planned on making the mods anyway. Your average consumer could care less. Remove the mods and sell separately. |

Nice machine, and it'll definitely catch someone's eye, but the collision is going to hurt and you unfortunately won't be able to recoup a lot when it comes down to the upgrades.

First, your X5 looks amazing.
You've got so much into it and with the miles and the collision its going to be tough for you you to get a great price for the car. If your main complaint is ride quality and thats why you are thinking about getting back into a sedan, here is an idea: Get your suspension back to stock, put some go flats on on your Winter wheels in the Spring and drive the car another year. If you like the ride, sell your big-ass summer wheels and use that money to buy nice looking 19" wheels (or 20's if you must) with proper go flat tires, a donut spare and/or a tire repair kit. You might like the ride so much you'll want to keep your beautiful X5 forever! It would be truly sad for you to let go a vehicle you put so much money and emotional capital into and let it go for so little. It still looks as nice or nicer than any X5 out there, including the new G05. No harm in driving a "vintage" BMW that is well maintained and well optioned. Whatever you decide, good luck! |

BMW's in general and most other luxury German cars have a very bad resale value no matter the condition. If I was in the market for buying a used X5, I would steer clear of modified cars and prefer stock.
