Hey friends,

I figured I’d make a thread dedicated to the install and testing of this Mosselman N55 EWG turbo upgrade for my N55 X5. To my knowledge it’s the first X5 to have this unit so I’m excited to see what results we’ll get. Given that the car was on a full FlexFuel setup on the stock turbo, the same methodology will follow here. As a reminder, here’s what was just completed at 62,8xx miles:

- Mosselman N55 EWG Turbocharger
- Funk Motorsport Turbo and Manifold blankets
- PPE Power Aluminum ZF8 Transmission Pan
- Liqui-Moly Top Tec 1800 Fluid
- New OEM Valve Cover and Gasket
- New NGK 97506 Spark Plugs
- New OEM Water Pump
- New OEM Thermostat
- Billet Micky Mouse Flange

Prior to installing the turbo, my best 0-60 was 3.9 seconds with a 12.18 second 1/4 mile on the stock setup on E50 fuel, full weight and 20” wheels. The car also made 400WHP/492WTQ on an AWD Mustang Dyno with the stock turbo setup, granted that was before a few revisions to the intake setup.

I have more data I can provide that’s on a different device, but wanted to get a good baseline of where we started and where I hope to go.

400/492 on the stock turbo to the wheels is impressive. Thanks for posting and looking forward to what you can do!

Yea I was definitely happy with that number all things considered.

Attaching dragy slips of stock turbo E50 times for record keeping purposes and tracking in this thread.

I need a BBK for the E53 in the worst way... just looks so good. Stopping power be damned, I'll admit it. I want it for the looks.

I’ll have dentprotony@gmail.com confirm but the front calipers are off a Cayenne and the rears off a Panamera I believe. Rotors are 550i GT front and 50i rears.

The factory 35i brakes just weren’t cutting it after I turned it up.

In true ‘doing serious upgrades’ form, we’ve got a misfire and timing pull on cylinder 4 so we’re checking plug gap and coil packs. It’s already got S55 Eldors so I’m thinking gap but I’ll let the experts get it done.

nah, 7 revisions in now lol. wanted to make sure what I was feeling wasn’t from improperly dialed boost control and fueling first.

I know I have to congratulate and be fully supportive. Its a hella awesome build.

But my //M tax paying ass with two extra cylinder is somewhat/jelly. The fact that you can reach //M power and i can't do much to pull away without risking my breadsticks. This suxs.

I'm gonna go have cry now.

BTW, what are you doing for the exhaust?

Thank you for the kind words!

For the exhaust I’d like to do a full 3.5” catback after the downpipe with a cutout before the vibrant muffler that’s on it already. Once it’s running right and dialed we’ll move on to that.

Confused as to what you mean? Are the f85s risky with a tune?

Nice! Did you need custom brackets for them?

I have a feeling I’ll be headed down this path… eventually.

Tony supplied the aluminum brackets for the calipers so they bolted right up without issue. Not a single complaint with the kit honestly.

There isn't much headroom on the S63 engines. The stock rods like to bend if and when you start upping the power. Sure its not a supper common thing, but considering that when one bends, it can take out the block. Not something you want as a possibility.

There is a reason why most tunes top out around the 600-650ish awhp mark, compared to the stock 500ish. On stock turbos you can push more, but something bending is guaranteed.

Take a look at the F10's or the F90's. Even at stock power levels some guys have managed to bend theirs.

It wasn't a stab at OP, his build awesome. I'm just hella jealous I can't slap on some bigger snails and get more zoom zoom as easy.

Got it. Interesting about the s63. I thought they had longer legs than that. But out of the box, they’re pretty beastly!
