you have to have driven for more than 10 KMs to get it engaged, right??? Launching this thing is so different from the launch control in my M3.

I don't think X5's come with it on US spec cars, however you can get this coded in by a few members on the boards

X5 Msport Line has the Launch control feature included. And yes, I believe it can be coded for non sport line...

Here is how to activate it.

Straight from 2016 manual

Requirements
Launch Control is available when the engine is
warmed up, that is, after uninterrupted driving
of at least 6 miles/10 km.

Start with launch control

While the engine is running:

1. Press button or select Sport+ with
the Driving Dynamics Control.
TRACTION is displayed in the instrument
cluster and the indicator lamp for DSC OFF
lights up.

2. Engage selector lever position S.
3. With the left foot, forcefully press down on
the brake.

4. Press and hold down the accelerator pedal
beyond the resistance point at the full
throttle position, kickdown.
A flag symbol is displayed in the instrument
cluster.

I have the M sport package so I know it has the LC feature. I thought I had driven 10 Kms or so before trying but i guess I didn't. I will make sure to exceed that barrier this time. Thanks thanks gents!!!

Definitely fun to play with, especially at lights from the right lane. Good video Kzang.

Nice video. That exhaust sounds pretty good. Almost as good as my diesel.

Kidding of course.

Eyes wide open - from the manual:

The use of Launch Control causes premature component wear since this function represents a very heavy load for the vehicle.
Do not use Launch Control during the break-in period.
