I do not understand why this steering debate is still a topic of a conversation. Who here has bought the X5 for its steering ability? I sure have not. Try to remember that the X5 is not a sports car.

First road trip in the F15 was a success!
Interesting, I think I'll switch back and forth between eco and comfort and see if that makes any difference on steering out on the highway.

After 18 months coming from an E70 I am well used to it and prefer it, even at autobahn speeds.

After 1200 miles on mine (with Active M suspension) I have gotten more used to it, but the steering is still twitchy as hell. If a deer were to run out in front of me at highway speed, the X5 would be probably roll over trying to avoid. The E70 was so much better.

I have driven today a XC90 hybrid...the wheel was much softer than my F15...now the F15 wheel seems to me really enjoyable!!!

What is it then? An off road vehicle, and we all bought it to plow corn fields with it? When we pay these amounts for a car, you could least except to have a normal steering. It's not about the car handling like a Porsche, it is about the car being driveable. People test drive the car, order one with a few addons and then get a completely different vehicle. So yes, its in order to complain.

I guess you still don't get it. It is called "SUV". All I am saying is that it is a vehicle that does well on-road and off-road from which you cannot expect sports car like handling. You can plow corn fields if you would like. I am sure it will provide great handling for that. The fact of the matter is that the X5 is specifically designed for demographics in North America where our roads are as straight as pussy loving rapists. Thus, the muted steering perfectly accommodates our environment. There are better handling SUV's out there around the same price range such as the Porsche Cayenne and BM GLE with airmatic.

Just get used to the steering and be HAPPY!!!

What makes the highway steering so bad for me is the lack of any on-center weight or feedback. It's oddly hard to keep the wheel centered since there's very little difference in steering effort between straight ahead and wheels turned.

Really!?
I thought Canadians (based on the small sample size I know) were better than that!

Agreed. A bit over the top for even for us brash westerners.
