*EDIT*,
BTW, you should be able to connect ista with the MHD adapter. That thing is just a wifi hotpsot. You may need to change a few of the settings.
Charging wasn't really an issue, it just took a long time to see the battery voltage increase. With help from another BMW owner, might have it narrowed down to the BDC, but I have to move the car to get the passenger door open to gain access to the BDC.

Have you checked all the ground straps? On previous gen getting a codes like this and no-start was common when the engine ground strap fried. On the F85 I don't think there is one by the front diff anymore and looks like they moved it back to the transmission area plus one by read diff and one on muffler. You can also add a ground cable to test the theory from any large bolt that goes to the body (front brace, struts, etc) to the engine and see if it makes a difference.

There are also multiple sub grounding locations to check, You can find their locations on BMW TIS. PM me if you need info on how to access if you dont have it it alraedy.

Should know something tomorrow. I haven't gotten the car moved to where I can access the passenger side yet, and I haven't messed with hooking up Ista either.

So, got the car moved, which took a lot longer than normal because I found out I have the newer variant on the 8HP75 (ZF8 see link below). Now to grab a quick lunch and get into it.

Well, I got Ista+ hooked up and talking to the car. It keeps telling me that there isn't enough voltage at Terminal 30. At this point, I have no idea what I'm looking for.

Okay, so cleared the faults and the Control Unit Tree looks like this now, with 44 faults instead of 65 before the reset.

That terminal 30 error is ISTA, nothing to do with you car. If I remember reading correctly the dev that made the offline/non-dealer version available, put it in as a protection against people doing work on their cars without them sitting on a PSU at 14.4v

Can't offer any real advice atm, but ISTA does have wiring diagrams (SSP). Look for common things, things that share the same module/connector. No way all those things failed at the same time.

Your tree looks as bad as mine when my engine is not running and I do a scan. All goes green with the engine running.

Apparently pressing the start/stop quickly 3x times put the car into diagnostic mode, this is needed to bring all the modules online. But I never managed to get it to go in.

The car doesn't run currently.... might be why the tree looks so bad. Didn't know bout the diagnostic mode. Have to try that tomorrow, thanks.

Yeah I'm not 100% on the diagnostic thing, I could not get it to go in. Some people have said that it's not needed and their ISTA scans without issues.

Maybe there is a setting in ISTA or i'm toggling the ignition incorrectly, because when I first got the car and ran the scan. It did comeback all green with the engine off.

I know doesn't help you current situation.

Right now, I'll take all the usable information I can get. Thank you.

I thought the smaller battery was primarily responsible for starting the vehicle. That may be the least expensive and easiest step to take next (other than getting it towed and paying someone else to diagnose).

BimmerNewb79, I take it you've already thoroughly verified SophisticatedRedneck's suggestion, and found all indicated connections nice and tight, right?

I ran out of time yesterday (setting up ista) to get the car up on stands to check the ground straps under the car, but everything I have been able to lay hands on, on the top side has been fine.

Next to the radiator in front, you'll see the brown and red lines from the batteries… anything look jacked up with those?

Sorry that you are going through this. I took a few pictures of the faults and diagram of the control units. I'll talk to my techs and see if they can help guide you in the right direction. If I had to take a guess, it looks like you might have a short somewhere and causing communication issues. Could be rodent damage or loose connection somewhere.

Where did you get ista from? i would like to get a copy for my personal use at home.

Everything looks good there and under the car. Finally got the car up on jack stands, what a chore.

You may be right. I took it out and had it tested, and it came back bad. So, I have a new one on order from RockAuto. We'll see if that fixes my issue when it gets here. 🤞
