Forensic analysis X5 recent history
Hi All,
I just got back my 2016 X5 after it had spent an extended period of time with my ex. She had a key, I have a key. Not driven it for year. When I picked it up it was parked on the street and had been extensively keyed inside and out. It was locked. She claims to have lost key and has provided a pretty shady story about moving the car to where she left it, misplacing the key, leaving it unlocked, going back a couple of days later in the dark to lock it and not being aware of any damage. Does anyone know if it's possible to pull a history of the last few times the car was moved / locked / unlocked? The BMW app on the iphone only shows the location and the last time the car was touched. Cheers |

If you are going to file an auto insurance claim for the damages made by (per your ex) some unknown person then your insurance carrier should be able to pull that information from your car’s computer. Good luck.

Which is why I’m curious to see if I can get the data and see if it matches her story. The police and the insurance company are involved. I’ll ask the insurance company if they can get that kind of data from the car. |

She had the key. She had possession. Nobody random is going to open a car to key the inside. Unless you have a psycho girlfriend. Lol

Imagine something like a house key pushed into and then dragged as hard as you can across the seats, door trim, leather dash trim and piano black wood trim. It was an Individual as well. Merino.

Call the police. Let her tell them her story about how she locked the x5 without a key. Then you ask her in front of the cops to show how she did locked it. She won't be able to without a key.

Her being out of your life might be worth just taking a hit on the deductible, let insurance deal with it.
But I would definitely get a police report, just in case anything ever came up. I have an ex gf who stole from me about what I paid for my X5, and tried to steal twice as much before I "woke up" and smelled the.. thorns! Not having that narcissist entitled... in my life, was how I justified the loss and moved on from her. |

On another note, make sure you check every nook and cranny of your car to make sure she didn’t stash anything in there (i.e., drugs, stolen items, a dead body, etc.) that’ll get you in trouble with the cops.

Car has been written off. Cost to repair $62k. Insured for $60k. Police seem disinterested.
Now all I need to work out is how to spend the insurance payout. Stage 2 tune for my F31 330i or swap for an F31 340i (kinda done with X5s for a while!) |
