Considering purchasing a 2014 35d CPO.
Hi everyone,
My wife and I are looking to replace our aging 2006 Rav4 with something newer, larger, and with more safety tech. We have a 4 month old daughter and also need something that can fit a car seat in the CENTER seat (statistically safest spot). So far we're considering 2018-2020 Honda Pilots, Passports, Toyota Highlanders, Subaru Outbacks/Foresters, and VW Tiguans. I really like my F10 535i M-sport and would love to consider a BMW, but new is out of the question...with the possible exception of leasing an X3 loaner. I found a 2014 X5 35d w/62k miles today that is pretty much fully loaded (M-Sport, DA, DA+ACC, DHP, Lighting, B&O, Night Vision, and more). I have two main questions. How reliable is this (compared to my F10) and am I crazy for considering this vs a newer car? I can do my own maintenance and repair work, but I don't want to be working on the X5 all the time (hence why the list of newer cars). Also, am I missing out on anything with a 2014 vs a little newer F15. I know it's the first model year, which I generally try to avoid. Edit: my mistake, this is used, not CPO. As for your second question, no I don't think you're crazy at all. Especially since you do your own work/repairs. I'd personally rather have a 2014 X5 than a newer Pilot, Highlander, etc. Especially the one you found with all those packages - none of those Japanese models will be even half as fun to drive. To some I'm sure there's more value in a newer, more reliable car, but for me I choose fun to drive and performance over all other things. Other than some slight package configuration changes, there really wasn't many changes in the later F15 models. Keep in mind they only built the F15 for 5 model years, and there was no LCI model. The few things I can think of - 2017 & 2018 models offered Apple CarPlay and Wireless charging. Both were optional/not standard. 21" wheels were optional for 2018 w/ M Sport, but you can find lots of 21's for sale on the forum if that's what you desire. Good luck w/ your decision |

35d is a good motor but keep in mind of emissions problems you could face and whether or not you may be allow to do these depending on how your state deals with emissions. CP4 fuel pump is quite common in going out and damaging the entire fuel system. Bmw has issued an extended warranty here in Canada for it till about 190k. Not sure about how long for USA

Do you mind my asking what price? Nothwithstanding, sounds like a gem of a find. I would say snatch it up and if not, tell me where I can find it I have been looking for one with those options, just want to add 3rd row too. GLWP.

I actually specifically didn’t want a third row, but needed the rear comfort seats. They’re wider than the standard seats (better for car seats). |

Diesel is reliable, the only weak spot is all the green eco stuff (EGR cooler and intake manifold, DPF etc) but they are all covered by extended warrany from BMW NA. I am at 68K miles right now and pretty happy with it, amazing gas mileage even in the heavy Bay area traffic.
