Typically smaller, thinner wheels are better suited for winter snow. I don't have experience with the 22" so I can not comment on that. Dedicated winters will be better but all-seasons should suffice.. At least I have not had any issues with all season 19" on my previous X5 in north NJ winter snowstorms on plowed and un-plowed roads.

Elmhurst always gets their cars into production quickly. You were test driving mine 7 days ago... now yours is being built.
Keep the 19" for the winter... and get 19" snow tires. If you want 22" get a set for the summer. But, be careful of the potholes... the freeze/thaw cycle here is insane and potholes are going to be rampant in April. Just a warning... |

Yea, the potholes are going to be a problem, I have to buy 2 new tires last winter because of that even mine was only a 18"
Having said that, 19" does sound too small because even my current 2 doors have 18", and X5 is a lot bigger than that... I'm going to ask the sales again to see if there is anything he can do :-( |

I'm living in Cali and i stuck with the 19" rims.
They come with all season RFT so i'll be using those as my winter set up. There's no snow in the LA/ OC area but i'll be taking it up to the mountains for boarding and I think it'll be perfect to use then. I'm getting another set of rims for daily, probably 21" or 22" depending on the cost of tires. Adaptive M suspension supposedly drops the car a bit more so I'm fine with either size. FYI, rep OEM rims cost about 2.5K? maybe a bit more with tires. Instead of the $950 upgrade, i'd spend the extra and get an extra set and I'm sure you can looking at your watches in your sig haha Hope this helps

haha, yea, i'm gonna get a set of 22", my struggle is, even if I keep the stock, i'll be stuck with the 19" and i just look at some pictures online, the 20" look a lot better than the 19". And my car will look ugly for a few months in the year :-(

Consider that in the rain and snow, smaller, skinnier rim/tire combo performs MUCH better. You'll be happy you stuck with the 19s during winter season. Looks may not be as great but knowing you're safe is

Very true, safety is most important. And actually after reading a few other threads, I figure it's not only safety, but also less chance to damage the 22" that I'm gonna buy. I can imagine wife come in one day saying "honey, sorry i bend the rim" or "the 22 tire is broken" lol

hamh I'm in the same boat as you. I just put in my order for a 2016 X5 35i M Sport but ordered it with 19's and I just sent an email today to my CA (Patrick BMW) to see if I can get the 20's..
I put in my order on Wed but I don't think went into production yet.. so maybe I'll get lucky. BTW, I also drive a VW GTI and I love it... can't wait to have both these cars in my garage! |

FamilyMan Congrats on your order, hope you can make the change. The 20" is going to look a lot better. I figure it's ok for me on the 19" as I won't be too bothered if the wife ruin it in the winter :-P
Sounds like we have quite a few Chicago people here, we should do some get together some day, haha. |

The staggered wheels really does make our X5 stance look like a beast
