X6 40d according to BMW
Urban in l/100 km 8,8 Extra urban in l/100 km 6,8 Combined in l/100 km 7,5 F15 X5 40d according to BMW Urban in l/100 km 7.1 Extra urban in l/100 km 5,8 Combined in l/100 km 6,2 I don't know where the gains come from on the F15. Is it the better drag coefficient or better programming of the engine/gearbox? Deda is right it is all bs anyway. I have a friend that runs a X6 40d and he gets 13l in the city as well. I currently drive an W166 ML63 AMG which is rated at 15.7l city and I get about 18.5l which is still some way off but much better than BMW percentage wise... |

BMW Canada also claims that the 50i will get you 12.2L/100KM (23 mpg!) which I don't expect that the lightest foot could possibly achieve.

To daeONE:
There have been ESTIMATES of what the EPA figures will end up being, but the EPA has not published anything yet. Where did you get these numbers? Do you have a "deep throat" source inside the EPA? |

Fuel Economy in Eco mode
BMW alludes to up to a 20% potential improvement using Eco mode. Once folks get a few of these in their possession (and if they can restrain themselves!) it will be interesting to see what can be achieved if you really try. My suspicion is that the highway number is not going to go up much because I think the EPA test uses 65 mph, but Eco mode may help a lot more with city driving. It may be that BMW's relative performance to competitive luxury Mid-size SUVs will actually be much better in real world highway performance (at real world highway speeds) if they have done a superior job on aerodynamics and gearing. Hope those of you who get your 35ds first will share your data. I learned today that mine will probably be a February build.

first of all the F15 is impressively lighter compared to its predecessor...then for those who have a hard time dealing with the figures on the paper, you might be right about the fact that the figures may not be same as the actual consumption, but then that same discussion applies to gasoline...the actual consumption is higher than the numbers on the paper...so my take is, the ratio (or the difference between the gasoline and diesel), should be there...that's 23% difference between 35d and 35i (not to mention the much more beautiful torque you get from diesel...

Oooohh - good find!
EPA is still not showing anything official either on their approval of the emissions or on the mileage, but the fact that in the past day or so BMW has both added this mileage info on to their site and started accepting orders for the diesel sure makes it sound like the diesel is finally cleared for the US! |

Interesting the 35i is 1 only 1litre more than ML diesel.
Save coin, Drive Econ mode, never tried it myself. Gas is one part of equation. The larger looming issue is the repairs. |

I did 23 constantly on my X6M without sweating and that's less efficient engine on heavier car with 6-speed AT 37mpg (US) for 35d is a bit optimistic (though IMO achievable), it'll probably be around 34-35 EPA (my own estimate) |

Ha! Just drove about 400km in the F15 diesel. Average so far is 10.4l/100km. Which is slightly north of 22mpg for our American friends.
This was mostly (75%) highway going between 60 and 80 miles per hour. And yes, on the 20" wheels. |

I'm not sure about the 40kilo...what i see is : "The new 3rd generation X5 comes in about 200 lbs. lighter than the last generation."
That's about 100 kilos... http://www.autoguide.com/manufacture...view-3492.html |
