That is correct. Carbon fiber cannot have heat option enabled. Also, if you swap steering wheels, you have to make sure you get one with heating option if you want to keep your heating option. For example, going from a heated Sport wheel to heated M-Sport wheel.

Bro, I just heard about the airbag recall, make sure yours is a good one, BMW was listed in that 20 Million recalled vehicles with defective airbags. Did you keep serial number? Is it Takata?

OK, forget what I said, I just searched and it was for older model BMW's

BMW (627,615): 2000–2005 3-series sedan and wagon; 2000–2006 3-series coupe and convertible; 2001–2006 M3 coupe and convertible

Also, please direct your steering comments/questions to the wrap thread so things stay more organized. Let's keep this thread for the 6WB . Thanks!

Saw 6wb on a F16 today. I can confirm that it looks sharper/better than on an F10. I want to do this mod now, with (again) a priority over performance package which is lame but i simply want it more, it looks fantastic. Have extended cluster which is nice (especially when it is using the white background during the day) but this thing 6wb will refresh the car and looks sooo cool imo. Not a super improvement over the F10 but a significant one (placebo effect maybe to some extent). Since i have a european vehicle if i do the normal service at the dealer (e.g. Oil change, brake change). I will not have to take out the 6WB cluster, correct? Cheers!!!

6WB is used in F10/11 as well so it’s the same instrument cluster.

That's correct. You only need to remove it when you do any type of software update by the dealer or they use ISTA/P to program anything in your vehicle. However, if your country/dealer has F15s with the 6WB, you don't have to remove it because the ISTA/P for your region will have it in its system. The reason why we have to remove it is because the ISTA/P they use does not have the 6WB as a valid option for F15s so it can't read the car. That's why we have to swap our 6WA in. Not hard, and you will get faster/better the more you do it. Either way, the upgrade to me is worth it. I'm very happy with it as are @cy07, @atomic80, @BB-Driver, gatordent.

Nope, it's not the same cluster. They are different parts. F15/F16 one is a little bit sharper for sure.

It seems to be different serial nr for 6WB between ex F13 and F10 so I guess you’re right, my mistake, couldn’t find serial nr for 6WB F15 in OEM parts?
What’s the serial nr of the one that bimmertech sells?

Opasha,

I am moving to the Netherlands soon, will drive the car there sometime in Feb or March 2015. As i am now in Austria, should I make a round trip to Poland and have it installed @bimmertech or can i do it myself. I know i can but ive never done any coding myslef and am afraid to do it. This mod is a must, can stop thinking about it. Cheers

I'll code everything for you as I have for 4 others successfully (3 in US, 1 in Germany - they can all vouch for me ) - coding literally takes me 3 minutes for adding 6WB to your FA and about 5-10 minutes with the final coding at the end. It's not too bad at all - my instructions are very straightforward. You just need a bit of wiggle room after you get the hooks unlatched to push the cluster deep enough in to unhook the bottom plastic notches from their grooves within the lower dash area. I would just do it yourself to learn especially if you have to swap the 6WA back in before you take it typo the dealer for any ista/p programming or software updates.

Are you sure we can order this as an option in Australia.

I was not offered this when I put my order.

You never know how handy/good you can be at something until you try. So far, it's been running flawlessly. I had a tiny hiccup where the navigation wasn't showing correctly, and this was fixed by VO Coding the HU_NBT. I also created the thread for answering people's questions to the best of my knowledge.

As far as the timing, if you follow my instructions, it should only take you max 30 minutes being the first time. After that, it should only take you 5-10 minutes because then you will have mastered how to unhook the hooks and pull the Kombi cluster out and put it back in - the factory one and the 6WB are 100% identical in terms of exterior dimensions - that's why the process is the same for removing/installing. I took 1.5 hours the first time because I was trying to capture the best pictures for each step and each part carefully in a dark garage.

The dealer will not install the 6WB for you. @wdimagineer has already explained this before in the other 6WB thread because it's not an official BMW released part for the X5 in the United States (apparently it is available in countries like Australia and Saudi Arabia for MY2015), so the service department won't really know how to work with it correctly. However, this is an OEM part, which is why it works. This is also why learning/knowing coding helps or at least talking to others on the forum that know/understand coding.

If anything, I can help anyone who installs this and guide them through the coding process if they have any difficulty. That was also the reason why I did everything in order and verified from shawnsheridan and wdimagineer each step before starting because I did not want to do anything incorrectly or mess up (the same valid concern you and everyone has).
Hi Opasha,

I am driving the 2014 X5 M50D F15.

If 6WB is available in Australia, is that mean when I get my panel it is just a simple swap with the multifunction panel rather then coding as well.

Thanks!

You will have to take it out. I had this almost done, but Bmw said that it will recognize this as false equipment and thus it will have to be removed every time, even though it is available for the 2015 model.

Has this info changed, or has anyone found out the opposite... and tested it?

If it's a retrofit, you will still have to code it properly for the first time. Once the coding is done, then it is easy swaps between your 6WB and 6WA Extended or Basic cluster. That swap does not require further coding at all since all of the information is now in your car. However, if the 6WB is in the ISTA/P system, then you will not have to swap it. I would do this. Take your car with your 6WB. Make sure you have your 6WA with you, if it can't be read, then swap it out. That will tell you whether it's doable or not. Also post back so people know that if their dealer/country has 6WB option and they retrofit 6WB, they can keep it in permanently or not. Thanks.

Installation and coding is done, and there is no 6WB code in my car at Australia, manually added now.

Try FDL Coding HU_NBT => KOMBI_AUFLOESUNG = aktiv.
