F15 Telescoping Steering Wheel Failure...

Yesterday evening the fore & aft portion of the telescoping wheel stopped functioning. The steering wheel still goes up and down and works in conjunction with the memory settings except for the extension and retraction.

Is this related to the memory seat module or the switch itself? If I bring it in to the dealer will this result in wiping out my coding or is this hardware related?

I have not scanned the vehicle for faults since I only have a VagCom at the moment but if it helps I will try to get it scanned for a more accurate response from the BMW Brain Trust on here.

I've seen a couple of other posts recently that were similar. I'd take it to the dealer and have it checked out. Only issue I've had with mine has been noisy functioning. They lubricated it once, the 2nd time they replaced some components.

Yes, tons of threads on this... and I've experienced it twice on mine.

what should i search under? i didn't see any results which pertained to my exact issue and question.

it failed in the position where i am comfortable driving it but i am curious if the dealer needs to code or update any modules after the repair.

You seemed to have found one Mine would telescope in and out but not up or down.
My Dealer changed out a new motor switch and it worked fine for a month and it happened again but the second time it corrected itself after restart. All my codes were intact after repairs.

excellent. thanks. i was hoping it is just the switch. should be a simple repair.
