Securing stuff
My X5 is just over a month old, and I couldn't be happier. Small problem, though:
Today I bought a rack of beer and to keep it from sliding, I secured it with a bungee cord. Seems like there may be a better way. Would appreciate an ideas/suggestions on securing stuff in the back or on the backrow floor. |

In the trunk there should be a handle you can pull to lift the floor up, this will expose a compartment where you can store items. My car is a European build, so not sure if the US build is different.

this compartment exists on the US model as well. not sure if its only for M sports since there is no spare tire there ....maybe the non m sports have that space occupied with the spare. but in general, yes, the carpet is slippery and things slide around......however, there is a cargo net stowed away in the left corner compartment of the trunk under where the rear tail light is pull off that carpeted corner and the cargo net should be there if you dont have one already.

I use a cargo mat. Works preventing things from sliding about.

I asked my dealer to price up the cargo rail accessories but they never came back to me.
Costco (UK) currently have flat rubber boot mats for £10 - bought one of these and its perfect! Much cheaper than the BMW option.

Our X5 Msport has no spare and therefore there is spare storage compartment underneath. I also have the cargo mat, cargo flat net and an upright net.

The floor cargo net is OEM as well as the mat. I had a hell of a time finding an upright envelope style net that was good quality. I actually ended up using the net from my Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland by adding a couple of hooks. It fits perfectly and the quality is great.
Now for the Jeep I got a "made in China" special from eBay which is great if you wanted to secure a tissue box. |

Lee are you in the US? If so check your rear left secret compartment. You should have a nice surprise there.

Mine came with net in glove box. My xdrive40e does not have the lower compartment and only small place for charger. My F10, does have small hidden location. Cargo mats do help with friction. There are various compartment options for grocery bags, both OEM and non-OEM solutions.
