Auto start stop

Just tried auto start stop for the first time. Have never been a fan of the idea, but I kinda like it. Would be interested in hearing thoughts on this.

For years we are told that starting does the most damage to your engine. Now we are told to start it multiple times on the same trip. And BMW tracks number of starts for lease purposes and penalties for too many starts. No thanks.

No thanks - that seems to be extra wear on the starter and battery.

Kind of sucks in stop/crawl traffic. Only minorly annoying at other times.

I keep mine on just because I don't mind it enough to remember to turn it off.

Please tell me that this is a joke. How/why can BMW charge a penalty because you've started your car too many times? Do they also track how many times you've opened the door?

It doesn't bother me, but I feel like it just gives me additional wear from the startup procedure and I don't feel like the couple dollars saved at the pump is worth all that extra wear.

I hate this feature. I code mine off to all of BMW that I had or have.
Unless if it will save me at the very least 10 mpg, I will not use it.

Never use, as manual says, may cause premature wear on some parts/components...
as mentioned above starter....
I hear many in Europe like it, or it is common usage.

Must have feature required in parts of Europe that will slowly find useful applications here, eventually.

It is a personal preference, though newer and newer vehicles have a more seamless transition. It has never bothered me and the xdrive40e is especially smooth as well as a little strange to not see rpm's rise.

There is a ISTA+ procedure for either disabling ASS or enabling ASS memory. Many dealers have stopped offering due to dieselgate.

Well, in the hybrid or electric assist car, I don't have issue with it. I used to have ActiveHybrid5, which is the early technology of the BMW Plug-in hybrid.
It is nice because whatever electrical components are still working normally, such as; A/C, Heater, Power Steering. While on the standard Auto Start/Stop, the A/C becomes less colder up to the point where the engine will restart by itself. Also the Steering wheel is stop working (Heavy), when you move it a tad, the engine restarted.

Is this why the F15 eats through batteries?

There are many reasons, but it's all related to trying to "save gas."
