Yay - I literally, mostly bought this car on impulse. But also, always had something for an X5. I drive fast cars, and never had a big SUV. Don't have a family or kids. But would like to tow my race cars

Too much money allocated in a really bizarre way over too many (not enough?) cars.

So, after 3 years you will have paid BMW more than $21k, not to mention insurance, for the privilege of 10k miles per year, and have nothing to show for it... doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

On the other hand, you would spend that money and own a car that you need to spend more money to maintain. In the end you will sell the car after 6-7 years for few grands. When you do the math right, total expenditure on lease and buy come out to be very similar and the slight difference is for driving a brand new car every 3 years.

Simple sunroof repair in a freaking Toyota Highlander is over 2k. So no thank you I don't want to own a car one day beyond its warranty.

I will also add that if you own a business or are in a position with the company to expense the lease payments vs depreciating, leases typically are the better option.

I drive way too many miles to make a lease affordable so I buy and take the max depreciation the first year, and the second. I can't remember keeping a car over two years.

This is the only time a lease makes sense.

Long-term cost of ownership is much lower when purchased outright at the time of purchase.

Exactly. there are pros and cons to every decision an individual can make, in any given situation.

What matters most is that one makes their decision based on what's best for them and the people who depend on them.

There is no right or wrong in this endless debate. Each individual will make their choice based on the hopes that the consequences will be as they planned.
