Did my ID6 upgrade

After much delay, I finally got around to doing my upgrade. I sourced almost everything from eBay, finally finding sellers of the headunit that was uncoded and not super marked up. Grabbed a bunch of cables, fabricated one myself. At the last moment found someone selling a mint touch screen locally. Worked with Steve from CodeMyBimmer to get it all programmed and updated (amazing guy, cant recommend enough!)

My 2015 feels so much more modern now!

Not yet. I’ve been doing a ton of research trying to figure out what exactly is needed to regain ConnectedDrive. It’s so murky lol

Nice, I was really looking to do this as well but couldn’t justify the cost of the retrofit and still not being able to get Connected Services anyways.

So I ended up with an Android ID8 skinned 12.3” screen headunit instead.

For me, staying OEM was a must. Which rules out any android stuff

Thanks for sharing this thread on my build thread. You've got me curious haha!

Do you happen to have a list of the part numbers you had to purchase?

A few links to the items on ebay i got:

Coding cable - I completed it by making an RJ-45 connector on the other end
https://www.ebay.com/itm/354220231165

WiFi antenna
https://www.ebay.com/itm/165984239290

ID6 head unit - not coded, no GPS port
https://www.ebay.com/itm/225507696143

I also picked up a touch screen locally.

Question, if I already did an ID6 retrofit to my vehicle, is it possible to add connected drive/atm so it all works?
Will there be an issue if I take the car to the dealer and update vehicle software or would I have to install my original headunit(nbt) then update vehicle software?
Sorry if this is a confusing question.

I've been trying to read up on doing the ATM upgrades....its a VERY murky area. There is no official supported way to do it, and it seems that the only people who've managed to make it work seem to have just gotten lucky.

There doesnt really seem to be a way to order the new 4G unit, so you can try your luck finding one from another doner car, and coding your ID6 to match it's VIN (not your cars), and it sounds like that doner unit needs to still be active....OR you can have your SIM card removed from your 3G TCU and soldered into the 4G ATM.....

But none of it really sounds like its confirmed to work for everyone.
