X6M 612M OEM Wheel question

Hi folks..

I have a 2016 X6M. We swap winter/summer wheels every season at the local BMW dealer. We just swapped winter for summer a week ago. (the BMW dealer stores the unused set during the off seasons).

But I think they swapped the wheels we had on our car for inferior wheels.

We had 612M wheels, but I'm 99% certain the ones we had had a brushed metal surface finish. The wheels on our car now are a smooth metal finish (like chrome, but not chrome). See photo below.

Did these 612M wheels ever come with a brushed metal finish, or is my memory just that bad?

So I also checked the tires DOT code from when they were installed and they match up to these tires. (the chances of finding two tires with the exact same DOT codes a couple years apart is almost zero).

But I feel like the wheels we had on the car last year were in 100% perfect condition. The wheels we got back have curb rash and all four center caps are really banged up.

So if this style wheel was never sold with a brushed metal finish, I'm willing to let it all go. I can't imagine someone at an otherwise reputable BMW dealer would dismount/remount/balance our summer tires onto crappy wheels while they were in storage. Or would they?

thanks.

I have the 20" version and they don't have that brushed on the face.

Mine are the 20s but ya, they're all one shade.

BMW only sells two types of 612M wheels. You can check the descriptions in the supplemental columns on the part database websites like bimmercat.com or realoem.com:
  1. Orbitgrey
  2. Jet Black

The 21" 612m wheels were either all polished (smooth and shiny) with grey painted accents or all black as Q mentioned.

The 20" 611m (non winter) wheels have machined surfaces.

The 20" 611m Winter set up completely orbit grey which is what Neverdone must have.

It sounds like you may be just forgetting what they looked like when you had them swapped. I can't imagine they switched them, but the damage you are mentioning is weird. I know every nick and scratch on my wheels. Maybe you don't pay that much attention or wash the car yourself? I don't mean that in a rude way....some people just aren't as obsessed as I am.
