2015: 35i or 50i

Hello Fellas!

I currently have a e70 2011 LCI 35i. I came a across a good deal on 50i 2015 and thinking of making the switch. Has all the options that I'm looking for.

I know that the 50i on e70 platform was plagued with issues and not very dependable. Wanted to know if on a 2015 will I run into the same or similar issues?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks,

If your current E70 is N55 motor, I would upgrade to the 50i.

So far it has been good and has improved from the previous N63 motor.

I have an E70 xDrive50i with no issues whatsoever.

I take it you haven't driven this 50i yet? If you had, you wouldn't be questioning this decision, you'd already be driving the V8. If you're wiling to lose out a couple MPG's and some maintenance costs, get the 50i.

And FWIW the N63Tu in the F15, at least so far, has better reliability that the N63 in the 50i.

You would love the 50i. It goes zoom while your gas money goes poof!

I love mine!

Do your due diligence and search the forums.... I've read plenty of issues in regards to the V8 engine with the F15. Good luck.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the advice, I am feeling good about it. Headed this weekend to negotiate and test drive the 50i.

I think the price is aggressive $35k MSport with all options black on black. I need to check the mileage.

the N63TU engine in the F15 body style is just an updated version of the N63 in the E70 body style. and they are not problem free.

The background story is that the 2015 x5 50i has 137k and the dealer wants $35,900.

That's a dead deal for me. Way to many miles for 15'.

I will keep looking.

137K miles for $35K? Does it come with gold bars or money stashed in the back or something?

That's what I said... of course the add online failed to mention the miles, his phone is going to blow up and no one is going to bite. Oh well,

Yeah but then again, that price for a 50i M-sport should have raised red flags right from the start (ie either huge miles, or maybe even low mileage salvage title.)

For a 50i m-sport with average miles (say 30k), I think you'd me looking more at 45-50k range.

$45k...isn't that much more for a decent mile, non salvage car. I mean $10k is still 30% more, but for so much less mileage...

64,000 miles a year equates to 256 miles per business day a year.

Who drives that much? Only delivery/trucking people.

So I suspect, car was used for long distance, coast to coast personal/business purposes.

One more thing... the add said $28,900 and then when I called he said that's the price with $7k down.

In any case this is a bad deal.

I am in no rush I will keep looking.

Wow, talk about deceptive advertising. The dude is mixing concepts of cash sale vs finance. $7k down, and then $29k makes no sense. No one advertises that way, and when you do, you get in trouble with FTC laws. If you are really advertising a loan, it's not a compliant consumer finance advertising.

If a dealer can't get something like this straight, I wouldn't trust them, they will more likely give you a Car Fox instead of a Carfax or tell you it's never been in an accident.
