2014 X5 50i M Sport + Window Tint
After ordering on the 22nd of October, my 2014 50i finally arrived on 2/5.
After having three previous X5's, there are some things I am absolutely impressed with: Power..... soooo much stronger with the twin turbo 4.4; absolutely blows my old E70 4.8 sport away.... Paint: best finish I have had in 13 years of BMW ownership...very little orange peel. After having Jet Black for the past 9 years, I am totally happy with the Black Sapphire metallic - it is black, yet also a super-deep gun metal gray Electronics package: writing on the iDrive knob is an absolute kick Also - Here in Texas, window tinting is not only popular, it is necessary. For those of you waiting on your 50i with 20" wheels, here are some pictures of how the car looks once the front windows are darkened (35%) to match the rest... |

Enjoy, yes 50i is a blast, nice with the increased hp over the E70!! You state that tint is a given and I noted that the other vehicle is white. I guess the hot Texan days are bearable. I was in Dubai, and most cars were white, rare to see a dark color, as the summers reach 50 Celsius.

Indeed a very nice car! Congratulation.
We have Black Sapphire on our F31 335i xdrive Touring and it looks stunning. Cannot wait for my 50i...estimated delivery in week 20. How's the sound of the car? |

Thanks
...................
Thanks for the many nice comments... When I moved to Texas from Ohio in 2008, I too wondered about the styling choices on cars in this state. Lots of low profile tires, chrome wheels 20" - 23" (wagon wheels IMO), blacked out windows... lots of bling. Lots of options and add-ons that were rare in my old neighborhood...but are common EVERYWHERE in Texas. No Joke. With the sun and heat here, the window tints keep your left arm the same color as your right one during the summer. Other than that, the style choices in Texas always favor Big, Loud and Bright... You don't see big hair in "Big D" as often as you would in the 80's, but I see big wheels and window tints every time I hit the road. |

Looks awesome! Great to hear about the paint quality. I noticed it as well on the few I have seen. I have a neighbor that just bought a Grand Cherokee and didn't even look at the F15. He got turned off a few years ago with the heavy orange peel on BMW's and has said more than once that's why he won't buy a BMW. I can't wait, in a couple of weeks I'll get to show off my black sapphire msport, mocha nappa with 469's and I can't help but think he might have a little buyers remorse.

Congrats and love the black look with the front windows tint. Pity not every government is smart enough to allow window tinting in hot climates (so you either break the law and tint it anyway, or just "enjoy" 45C sun... )

Hey JDFW75,
I'm just up the road from you in Argyle/Denton, where did you buy from in DFW? I've got one coming from Classic, actually the car is here but had some damage to the headlight lens in transit. Should be fixed zoo. So what kind of deal did you get if I might ask? Thanks |

Tint
I told the dealer to apply the tint while doing the vehicle prep. Most dealers have a reputable company that they use to do tinting... and a few $$ for two windows is not a large expense. I had the two front windows (only) matched with the rear factory tinting - as close as possible - which was applied at 35%. Any new car should get Ceramic tints ....3M.
