My late X5M build

Picked up my 2017 X5M in June and never really got around to posting on here. Long time member (used to have an e92) but never really got around to posting too much. Anyways, here's some pics of my F85. Black Sapphire over Mugello, every option minus 21s, B&O and night vision.

Right after picking it up-

Here with my E46 M3 weekend toy

Not long after I did the black kidney grills and side grills, along with CF shift knob and M pedals. Also refinished the OEM 20s in gloss black.

Then I decided the car needed some more noise and picked up an Akrapovic exhaust locally. Ended up doing the RKP diffuser and ACS springs at the same time. After front reflector delete and completely blacking out all the chrome this is where the car sits now.

Plans for right now is find some 21's so I can get off the stock Pirelli's. Super annoying that there's only one real option for tire in the 20" size. Down the road I'm going to go with downpipes and a real tune but I figure I'll enjoy the power as it is for the moment. This car has been fantastic so far, looking forward to piling on the miles.

Very very very different experiences. M3 is 6mt, so that's a big one. It's also "slow" in comparison to the X5- NA 6cyl vs TTV8, has almost half the power of the X5 and almost half the torque. No real creature comforts. Also on solid bushings and race spec suspension all the way around, so it's an apples to oranges comparison. They're both amazing cars in their own right but each has their strengths.

Not really anything that hasn't already been discovered, but switched out my 20" Pirellis for Continental DWS06 to better cope with the winter weather here around DC. Night and day difference on day to day driving. Makes the car much more confident and responsive around town in everyday conditions. I will say it is a sacrifice at higher speeds (100mph+) and some turn feedback but that's to be expected with a high performance summer vs all season.

You should've gotten Michelin A/S 3 instead of conti if you wanted better handling like summer tires.

nice. hate my 20's too for the same reason. some have suggested going 10mm smaller tires and you have better options, they seem to fit on the rim, but double check first.

I was cross shopping the Michelin with the Conti and ended up going Conti because of the test reviews. No complaints with the handling itself until I get pretty deep into the speedo (90-100+).

I stopped down 10mm each front and back. Honestly, the fit looks exactly the same as the 285/325 Pirelli's. My next area I want to explore is that Michelin makes the pilot super sport in 275 315 for Porsche Cayenne fitment, so if those have the same fitment as the Pirelli's (like the Conti's) then we should be able to get a little more usability out of these 20s.

Really stunning. Having just ordered Black Sapphire with the black 21" alloys and black interior about 5 hours ago in the UK, seeing this just reaffirms the colour decision!

I'll now spend the next few months saying goodbye to my much loved 2016 7 Series...

Black sapphire is stunning, I'd advise to get a ceramic coating or paint protection as it'll make maintenance of the paint much easier.

I thought about doing the black interior but very happy with the Mugello Red. The only other options I'd consider would be Aragon and Amaro. These seats look amazing with a little bit of color. Congratulations on the purchase though!

Absolutely will be. Have had all my cars detailed and prepared before collections from a really good UK detailer. This time I’ll get the paint protection film too.

What is it like to wash after that? Any extra precautions to take on top of the norm or just wash as you would to prevent swirl marks?

I went with black interior due to newborn few months back. I know what he can do later when the car comes so it was the only compromise. The current 7 series has smoke white interior. It’s been cleaned more that the outside when daughter drops a chocolate button!

Haha! I don't have little ones so I have a lot more control over my interior lol

After the ceramic coat the paint feels like glass, much easier to wash and protects against dirt buildup pretty well. I wash with three buckets, two with just water and one with soap. But with the ceramic coat I can keep it clean with just a good foam and rinse. Definitely recommend.

Are you lowered? If so, what springs and how's the ride quality?
