Added euro headlight switch for rear fogs button!

Just installed it! Now I can press the rear fogs button and it lights up the outside brake lights on the tail lights and looks like I'm braking. Cannot tell you how handy this is in LA traffic where everyone tail gates you. Turn them on and the car behind you immediately pulls back thinking you're on your brakes.

Dealer had to order the switch from Germany. Took 2 weeks and cost $180. Install took 5 minutes. Just pop out the panel with a trim tool (you have to pull INSANELY hard and it feels like you're going to break it but you're not) and then unclip the cord and pop the new one in.

$180 isn't bad at all. Any photos of the tail lights with the rear fogs on?

Any wiring or coding ???

Part # is 61319865813

Have to troubleshoot though as it looks like the rear fog button doesn't work by default. It did when I swapped it on my E90 a decade ago. But I have the Bimmercode app and will pop in there and see if I can enable the rear fogs. I remember seeing a ton of options about rear fogs so I am confident I'll be able to get that button working with a quick setting change.

Incorrect. Not same effect. Your brake light only stays on as long as you are on the brakes.

So is the button working or not? When you depress it, do the tail-lights stay on until toggled off? You said it's not working by default, what do you mean? Or are there separate fog lights that should work? Please clarify, thanks! My E92 has euro fog lights switch update and there were dedicated fog light bulbs in the tail light assembly that came alive after the install. The car had those bulbs preinstalled from factory. No coding was required.

There is a long thread that covers this. It is not simply plug and play. If I recall the US spec lights aren't wired properly for this to work. I only recall one guy that went through the pain to get this to work.

What year is your X5? although I do remember someone saying something about that changing in '17 models. Can't be 100% though.

Any chance you could link to that thread? My X6M is a 2018.

the euro switch will simulate the rear fog effect but to truly have rear fog lights you need the EU/ROW tail lights.

I can't get it to work in the app But literally searched "rear fogs" and it was the FIRST thread. Lol

And with that said monkiboy got it working on his '17 which I believe is the earliest year possible without euro headlights. He claims just the switch and coding but that's an F15

So. Let's revisit this. I know the full effect isn't there. But we get some pretty bad fog here and it's nice to have a little extra bright light in the back of the vehicle for visibility when conditions are met for them.

In theory. You can plug in the headlight switch and code the rear fogs to on in coding. Then they should light in the back correct?

Sorry to revive an old thread but i would be interested in having the rear fog light option on my 2016 X5M. Can my current rear lights be coded via Carly if i have the Euro Switch?

would you have the correct part#'s for a 2016 F85? Would any special coding be required?

Coding may or may not work on your '16. The rear fogs didn't work on my '15 F85, everything else works just fine, even with coding. YMMV, but if you'd like to try anyway:

Not off-hand but coding would be needed either way.

NAR tail light w/ ECE headlight switch coded for rear fog light:

Another impressive feature that I had on other vehicles but not on this one is the adaptive brake light. I don't think you can code it for NAR tail light but on others it strobes if you stop short or ABS is activated.

Is this something that can be coded using the Carly app?

You can try, but it didn't work for me on my '15 F85. I tried using Bimmercode, not Carly tho

I've acquired a euro headlight switch for rear fogs button (part# 61319865813). Has anyone done this mod and installed this on their F85 and if so, can it be coded to work properly? I figured with all of the time on my hands due to covid-19 i should do some mods.
