Wheel straightening and tire insurance

I had always purchased tire and rim insurance but when I bought my 2016 x5m , Dealer wanted $4200 for tire and rim and rim protection would not cover cosmetics. From what I understand dealers now rarely replace rims and only send them out for repair. Instead I decided to order a brand new set of tires from tire rack in case I lost a tire . Recently after this winter noticed very slight vibration in front left. I found a local rim repair who determined two minor bends in my 21 inch rims. Rims repaired and car drives so much better. Always a good idea to have a local rim repair check your rims. So given how expensive tire and rim insurance is now, u may better off rolling the dice yourself

$4200 is ridiculous. I get things increase but come on. I think the tire and rim insurance was $700 the first time I got it back in 2005. I got it last time around in 2016 but it was probably half of the quote you got, if not less. For $4200, I'd take my chances too.

Not worth the price. I paid $125/wheel to refinish a set on my last M car. I refuse to pay for the insurance...

I paid $1800 for 4 years and it covers any wheel I put on the car. I've already had all four tires replaced for $50. (Actually, had a slow leak in one, they replaced with 4 Pirellis and I took it back three months later and they replaced with 4 Michelins PSS because I could not stand how they Pirellis handled).

Over all, I feel good having it. I would have self-insured had they quoted me $4200!

Nice timing on this thread! I got a nail in my rear tire yesterday, and it didnt dawn on me until I read this thread that I think I got the insurance since I negotiated them down - I think I got it for $1200, but they asked for $3000.

Does anyone know if they plug nail punctures, or they have to replace? If they plug it, I'd just take it to my tire guy.

I have several patches/plugs in my Michelin PSS. If you have run-flat tires, I don't believe they'll patch/plug them.

Its the 21" Michelin PSS. If they just plug it then I'll just go to my tire guy rather than wait at the dealer.

I paid $1,770 for three years with a $50 deductible. I got my lease from a CA dealer - the NY dealers were twice the price.

Does the deductible apply for a plug??

In my experience, if you have insurance, it's always better to replace the tire vs. plug it. I assume that if you plug it you are not using the tire insurance so there would be no deductible.

I contacted my SA, he said the insurance states Michelins can be patched, anything else its a replacement, but he will try to replace.

I guess that alone is worth a shot.

I go to Paul Miller in NJ and they always just replace damaged tires because I have wheel insurance.

SA replaced it - I saw the bill that was going to the insurance company, $586. I paid $1300 for the coverage, one more tire should cover that. There was no deductible either.

I bought my X5M used and the selling dealer (Cadillac) had a product from this company called Innovative Aftermarket Systems of Austin TX. When I checked prices of my style 612M rims and Sport Maxx 21" tires I decided it is probably worth it. They also offered windshield replacement with OEM glass and lost keyfob insurance.

I am usually not a fan of this type of insurance. I bit the bullet.

A keyfob was misplaced and the replacement was nearly $500.

Thanks for the reminder, I do think I have the windshield and key fob coverage too, def the key fob. This is the first time I've ever opted for this as well.
