Surely they’re just fitting the ‘fix’ to 18 built cars (Sept 17)?!?!

I had been click free for several months after the 4-5th attempted fix, but the sound is coming back. Currently only after longer drives and on hotter days, when i drive back into my home parking lot i hear it. Since the BMW dealer is close to my home, if I drop it off in the morning cold the car makes no sound. Also after they re torque the wheels on after checking for issues, it also reduces the sound for several days. Having to re-explain the issue every time I take the car to BMW is very annoying, as apparently they aren't good at taking notes and not treating things like a new issue each time..

Anyone having alignment isuses after the spacers were installed? They installed those about 2000 miles ago, issue cams back, and now both front tires need to be replaced. Asked corporate to pay for it, we’ll see what they say.. I already know the answer but it doesn’t hurt to ask, right?

Noticed some clicking on my 2018 F15 X5 today...

Was the permanent fix for folks front axle replacement on their F85??

I'm wondering if I'm having a related issue or if it's something else. The sounds is very similar to the recordings posited on this thread...

Has anyone succeeded fixing this issues? Or start ignoring the clicking sound and just enjoy the car the way it is? LoL

Interesting reading.

I took my 2018 X5M (built Dec 2017) into the dealer on Friday with the exact same issue.
The clicking noise on turning.

Its been booked in to get the shim fix (as they looked up the symptom on the PUMA system) and found that....

However judging by all the comments on here, I'm not holding my breath..

Regardless - BMW appear not to have applied any fix for this issue at the factory.
My car is on 2,400 miles - issue has been there for the last 500 at least...

Had the F10 M5 before - never had this issue on that in 3 years, so its defo F85/F86 specific.

Not sure that should be strange at all. Different suppliers and/or different production batches can generate problems within a given model year - but not for the entire model year.

For what it's worth, I had this exact problem on my M235i. I kept bringing it back until they actually fixed it. They tried all kinds of crap before they finally put the shim in there. Been fixed now for 8000 miles.

Regarding this issue - are shim and spacer (the small round washer) the same thing?

I am experiencing the clicking issue on my 2018x5m, only when I make a left turn does it happen. I haven't read through the entire thread so forgive me if this has been answered, was it the wheel bearing or something else?

Well, over 600 posts on the topic and I have yet to discern the "root cause(s)" and appropriate fix

Floating rotors, bearings, splines, etc. Hard to understand how this has been an issue for several years and the issue is still presenting on MY18 units.

I've owned a 16 and now an 18 X5M and both have these issues.

I'm yet to go to the dealer and find out the magical fix on my 18, as they added the spacer to my 16 and it did absolutely nothing to resolve the issue.

It is absolutely insane.

Yep - It would appear that there is no permanent fix for this issue.

Those that had the (spacer/shim/gasket) whatever you want to call it, have all reported that the issue returned.

Others have had new bearings, hubs, rotors replaced and still get the issue.

I agree its unsatisfactory - especially at this price point..

If my dealer are unable to fix the issue I will be speaking to BMW to see what compensation they are willing to offer.

When I took delivery of my car - the sunroof blind was faulty. They gave me £2500 in dealer credit for that issue (and it was fixed promptly)...

I'll suggest a full Akrapovic exhaust system this time!

Cheers

Steve

And there are also owners reporting no issues! It is sounding as if there may be more than one component involved and the (bad) luck of the draw hits when two or more come into play and you get the problem.

BMW clearly has the resources and capability to do the root cause analysis and sort it out.

The growing question is what it has not been resolved. Another thought is that the frequency of the symptom may be so small as to be low priority.

I wonder if it’s that they don’t have the issue or are just not aware of it. If I never pulled into a parking garage with my window down, I would never hear it.

I think I'd better keep my mouth shut lest the devil of wheel bearing noise comes after me.

So they’re essentially a spacer?

Their function is to create friction between the hub and backside of the rotor - thus a friction washer. I do not believe the function is to create additional space.
