G05 or 2018? Screen shots.

Plus G05 was well known to have it if that's what you mean.

Well can’t be F15 unless they released a fix otherwise the remote start wouldn’t work anyways.

I've been trying to get a resolution for this for the past year since it's basically impossible to get a fix at this point... since BMW is making the G05 which has a working remote start system, I can't imagine why they would spend time fixing the F15 retrofit.

I even contacted BMW NA and BMW AG, both told me it's not their problem and it's something I need to resolve through my dealer.

Anyone have success getting a refund or whatever?

Well good news folks.

There is now an update for the factory remote start module for the car. As the remote start is a dealer retrofit, this fix should be covered by warranty (there is a two-year unlimited miles warranty on all factory parts and labor) but I do not have paperwork because they couldn't figure out how to bill BMW for this yet. The service foreman's explanation is that BMW sent them (the dealer) a physical thing of some sort (I don't know if it's a flash drive, a new ROM chip, or what) that they plugged into the remote start module to update it. So now it works perfectly.

And they also updated everything to the latest ISTEP integration update and the remote start still works fine, so looks like they fixed whatever bug was in the system.

Still no ConnectedDrive app support though. Good news for those of us that held out for this long without getting a refund.

Also I figured out that BMW actually sends the dealer a microSD with an updated firmware on it and there is a microSD slot on the module. The module is programmed to check the slot if there is a microSD present or not, and if there is one, it will then check if there an updated firmware on the card, and automatically update the firmware if necessary.

I imagine BMW will only send these microSDs to the dealers, but I'm thinking if there is a way to just get that image off the microSD, people can just fix this themselves without having to visit the dealer at all… in fact I don't know why BMW doesn't just issue this update online like they do for the iDrive software updates.

Exactly. Probably more visible that they ducked up

BTW if you do still have the BMW remote start and you get the fix for it, don't try to code mirror folding and windows closing with the keyfob. Looks like the programing for the window and mirror fold with lock button takes priority over the remote start procedure causing the latter not to function. Everything else works fine though.

I use Esys, though I imagine it's the same problem if you code with one of the mobile apps.

Would purchase one in a minute if I had the extra cash. Since I retired to Florida and on a fixed income the extras are far and few. This may be my last BMW. Would have really enjoy getting into a cool car after it sits in the Florida Sun for hours.

That would be annoying. I use that to close my windows and sunroof before flash rain storms all the time. Lol

Invest in a good ceramic windshield tint and at least some shades will do you wonders more than the remote start. Will also protect your dashboard, finishes, and leather.

I don't park with my windows and sunroof open, so it's not really a problem for me. It's more a problem of me sometimes opening them by accident with the keyfob.

That said when I programmed it to enabled the mirror folding and then programmed it to disabled the mirror folding [by keyfob] it seems to disabled opening the windows by keyfob as well, so all is good.

NO way in HELL coating will do more than a remote start! LMAO. if you think that you clearly have never had a remote start. With a remote start your car is 70 degrees when you get in it no matter what month of the year it is. no coating will even come close to that no matter how much it helps.

dungsorter is talking about how expensive the Remote Start is. It is expensive compared to tinting. Tinting is preventative. It's like it's hot today should I turn the AC on… of course, but if I close the blinds it's might be so hot inside.

It didn't bother me that my remote start didn't work for almost two whole years because 90% of the time I park in the shade or my car isn't hot to begin with because a lot of heat was rejected due to the tints.

Having the remote start is a great and I never said it should be replaced by tints. I only said tints and shades will do you wonders in the long run compared to a remote start.

Of course tints will do jack in the winter.

Is there any aftermarket options for remote start on the F15 X5?
I'm trying to make the X5 as practical and convenient for my girl as we just had a baby last week.

I bought aftermarket rear window shades from Target but they don't cover the entire window, I'd prefer the OEM ones but can't seem to find them online.

I'm also looking for a front windshield cover but haven't had any luck finding the one that spells out BMW in the front. I read somewhere the E71's sun visor fits the F15. Can anyone confirm this?
