Wouldn't that be great. Or better yet a 50d!

So basically up to the 5 years for the term of this policy, my car should be worth no less than £25k, adding the £50K cover allows me to get a new £75K car without it costing me anything. These policies are good when you have a finance loan for the car, in case the loan is more than what the car is worth or what the insurance company would pay out if written off. Hope I have explained myself clearly Please be rest assured I am not a GAP insurance sales man

I fully understood what you said, but it sounds too good to be true, at least for me.
I have a similar insurance cover in my country, but that can pay for a brand new car only within the first year... After that, the covered value drops as the car gets older. |

No that's how it works. There are actually multiple types of gap - you can have return to invoice which will pay the difference between the settlement fee and the invoice amount. But there's another which is called 'replacement' which is a like for like. Eg of bmw don't make the f15 anymore or due to inflation the cars are more expensive now then the like for like should cover a brand new x5 to the same spec.

In fact these policies become more beneficial as they get older as they have to pay out more as the car depreciates to cover the bigger shortfall.

Average GAP Insurance in the UK for a car like ours is what ? £300 ?
(I got mine for the X6 for £287) That is nothing compared to what the benefits would be if something were to happen. It's a no brainer imho.

And just heard from my dealer, looking like 21st for delivery... has been in the country for a week already! What takes so long?? Surely this is money the dealer does't have so they'd be keen to get it delivered as soon as possible. Can't understand why pre-delivery inspection takes so long.
Also had the quotes for insurance etc from the dealer: Gap £589 for 4 years and they'll give me £500 towards my excess Tyre insurance £549 for 3 years and 5 tyres in that time Paintwork £339 with 15 claims in 3 years BMW Guard X for £599 All seems expensive!! |

All pretty much what I thought. Paintwork looks not too bad a deal though??
Love the way they seem to think that because you’re buying a luxury car you’ll pay more for the same product than somebody who is buying a cheap car... When you read about the market penetration of these extras, it’s frightening how much money they make. |

Dont do the paint protection from the dealer.
They end up washing the car first, that in itself puts fine scratches on the paintwork (god knows who they hire to do this and what they use to clean the car, guessing a scouring pad) Then, in their wisdom they apply the "Protection" which basically locks in the scratches and you cant get those removed without using a rotary polisher and taking off the protection to get to the fine scratches, then re-applying it again. basically dont do it

I admire your self control not checking, not sure I could! I haven’t any ability to track mine as it’s a dealer bought car. I have screenshot of the tracking details but I know it’s already in the country. Sometimes I wonder if things get dragged out to maintain an impression of exclusivity... |

I'm actually concentrating these couple of days on doing my first full detail on the 5 series. Had it a year and wanted to put some sort of hydrophobic coating on to make washes easier etc. So I bought a spray thing worth about £40. I then proceeded to buy over £500 worth of detailing stuff and now I'm doing the full thing. Yesterday I washed thoroughly and clayed. Today is polishing day. Maybe this afternoon I'll apply the ceramic coating. Tomorrow I'll put on the hydrophobic seal. I'll do it all again with the F15 when it gets here and I can take 3 days off again!!

Wow! Can’t be arsed with that!
And always difficult to know how much benefit there is in all these coatings, hear equally vociferous arguments both ways. Then colleague’s boyfriend who does body repairs doesn’t particularly rave about them, leaves it all a little confusing! |

The really annoying bit is after a year I've got at least 10 separate stone chips around the car....

And the marks from the people who use your car as a guide for their parking efforts... Or a door stop when they’re getting out the car... They don’t give a monkey’s about their car so why should you care about yours???
